Total nightmare from the start

Credit Karma member

When I first refinance my loan I spent over a year of aggravation with them calling me and telling me I had to sign paperwork which I had done already. Very hard and takes a long time to talk to an actual human being. Hopefully you never have a time when you need to skip a payment because they are very difficult and they will find a reason not to do it for you. My car is almost paid off and then I will be done with them. I’ll never ever refinance a vehicle with them again I’ll stick with a credit union they are at least human

Terrible conflict resolution

Credit Karma member

Worst customer service! I've been waiting for 4 months now to get my title and I'm still waiting. Each time I call its a different girl from the Philippines that speaks English well enough for conversation but nowhere near good enough for business. They have given me incorrect information that ended up adding a month to the wait time. They then proceeded to "lose" my uploaded documents but failed to notify me. I only find out about problems with the process when I call them to find out what's taking so long. The wait times are regularly around an hour and then 3 out of 5 times you will be disconnected; some times while you are still waiting for somebody to answer. Everything, documents and decisions, go through the mysterious "back office" which you cannot ever interact with. So the people you actually speak with are only a repeater relaying information to people that might get around to helping in a few days. Refinancing through this company was a terrible decision.

If I could negative stars I would do It

Was given preapproval immediately for $35000 then they took it back- then I submitted all my documentation. Was told everything was great. Just call when I get there! So I go. Then I'm told- well you're $50 short?!? Uh how? Well we can't count your husband's income but we can't his truck payment and other stuff against you?!? Uh... and they won't reason with you either? 1 hour later they're still being stupid about this. I can go back and redo this entire process and add my husband... uh no- just forget- how about I don't need the stupid car! Jerks!

Bad Customer Service

Credit Karma member

Coming from a service industry I understand you try to keep things on track, however, you have the ability to make consessions. I have made every payment on time, have not missed one! Just realized today because of an email alert that I am being charged late fees! It appears that my bi-weekly payments, the second one, posts one day after it should. I got too sorry, make another payment and this will not happen. So helpful. Long story short, I wish I had stayed with Kia! Not a helpful company at all. :(

How to Set Up Automatic Payment for Capital One Credit Card

How to Set Up Automatic Payment for Capital One Credit Card

With around 45 million cardholders, Capital One is among the top 10 largest credit card companies in the United States. Capital One will issue a credit card to just about anyone, regardless of your credit card rating. However, the worse your credit is, the higher your interest rate will be. To avoid further harm to your credit score from missed or late payments, you can set up automatic payments for your card.

Capital One’s Late Fees

In addition to income from credit card account interest, Capital One makes a tidy sum from late fees. They can and will charge you up to $27 the first time you pay late, and if you're late again within the next six months, they'll charge you up to $39. This is per late payment.

Gone are the days that a bill payment was considered late after 30 days. Like many other credit card companies, Capital One's late fees kick the moment your payment is made after 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the day it's due. No exceptions.

Even if you're uncomfortable with the idea of automatic payments, if you've ever forgotten a payment and were charged a hefty late fee, you might want to reconsider. Setting up automatic payments is the best way to ensure that you'll never be late again.

Capital One Autopay Options

You can set up automatic payments in one of two ways.

  1. From your checking account's bill pay service.
  2. Directly with Capital One using Capital One autopay

Both methods will debit your checking account each month. The difference is, if you set up automatic payments from your checking account, you will not be sharing your bank account and routing number with Capital One.

While Capital One runs a pretty tight ship, well-publicized data breaches have occurred at companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield and Equifax. Using your bank's bill pay service is one way to cut down on the number of companies that have access to your checking account.

Autopay From Your Checking Account

To set up an automatic payment to Capital One from your bank account, sign into your checking account and choose the Bill Pay option. It's usually a tab near the top of the page. Every bank and credit union's website is a little different, but after clicking on Bill Pay, you'll usually see an option for adding a new bill. It might say something like "Add a Business or Person."

Click on that and type "Capital One" in the name field. Then fill in your Capital One account number. After you've done this, there should be a "Set Up AutoPay" option. When you click on that, you'll need to fill out how much you want to pay Capital One and when.

Capital One Credit Card Auto Payment

Your second alternative is to use Capital One autopay. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Capital One account and click in the area that shows the name of your account and its balance.
  2. Find the button that says, "I want to…" It's roughly in the middle of the page on the right side of your screen.
  3. A list of options that are organized by categories will open. The first category is "Payments." Below "Payments," the second item listed is "Setup AutoPay." Click on it.
  4. A small window will open with a large button called "Add payment account." Click on it.
  5. Enter your checking account routing number and account number. (You have to enter the account number twice.)
  6. Select the Type of Account you're paying from, from the pull-down menu. (personal checking, personal savings, money market, etc.)
  7. Click on the big green "Add" button.
  8. After you've clicked on "Add" another small window opens that tells you "Monthly automatic payments will be paid on (your due date) each month.
  9. From here you can choose how much you want to pay; "minimum payment," your "statement balance," or fill in a different amount.
  10. A final window will open with a brief Terms and Conditions statement. Below the statement, click the big green button that says "Set up autopay."

That's it! Now all you have to do is make sure you have enough money in your bank account on your due day every month. No more late charges. If you run into any problems setting this up, call Capital One Customer Service at 877-383-4802.

A column on personal finance.

Q: I’ve had (and enjoyed having) a Walmart credit card for the last four years. It was issued and maintained by Synchrony Bank, with whom I had zero problems.

However, for reasons unknown to sensibility, in early October, Walmart announced that their new banking partner would be Capital One. Bleah! They’re not on my list of favorite banks, by a long shot. They finally got around to sending out information about how to change your account information from Synchrony to Capital One. And I am not a happy camper!

I like to use my own bank's bill pay service: I enter the payee information and my account number, and can then request a specific payment date and amount, and it's done. No fuss, no muss, no bother. But no more!

Capital One apparently has no provision for customers who use their own bank’s bill payment service. I was told by one Capital One rep that it was no problem at all. “Just give me your routing number and your checking account number, and I’ll set up the auto pay system for you,” he said. My reply? “Like heck you will.” Followed immediately by a disconnect on my end.

A service rep from my bank (U.S. Bank) spent almost an hour on the phone with me, trying to find the missing info, and finally came to the conclusion that Capital One does not want the customer to do it — Capital One wants to do it all. One can mail a payment to a P.O. box in California, but I was told you must allow two weeks for the payment to arrive there and then be processed! Really? Do they realize that this is the 21st century?

I can, of course, go to Walmart and pay in cash, but that isn’t always convenient or feasible.

Do you know about this switch? Could you please tell me whether I’m doing something wrong, and then explain how to do it? In this particular instance, I’d be happy to be wrong. But NO WAY will I give Capital One my routing or account numbers! Not gonna happen!

K.F., Cleveland

A: Walmart did indeed change the underwriting and administration of its credit card to Capital One. It’s just business. Merchants sometimes change vendors.

But, of course, it’s baloney that Capital One won’t accept payments sent through another bank’s online bill payment service.

A Capital One spokeswoman said nothing on Capital One’s end would prevent you from using U.S. Bank’s online bill payment service connected to your checking account to pay your credit card bill.

Capital One is one of the five largest card issuers in the United States, along with Citi, Chase, BofA and Discover. It has roughly 100 million card holders. Of course it accepts electronic payments sent by other banks, as well as by mail and directly through Capital One and its web site.

Capital One reached out to you to help you make sure you that paying your bill was as easy as it was before. You were able to get this resolved with the corporate office’s help. Apparently, Capital One asked for your routing and account number because the representative misunderstood what your question was.

If this hadn’t been resolved, my advice to you could be followed by others dealing with Capital One or any payee: Log into your checking account and go through the steps to set up a new payee. Have your statement on hand, with your account number. Your bank — in this case, U.S. Bank — will let you know during the process whether it has an electronic relationship with Capital One and can make your payment electronically in one day with no fee. If it doesn’t have an electronic relationship, it will ask you to enter the payment address. In this case, the payment address is P.O. Box 60599, City of Industry, CA 91716-0599. Then U.S. Bank — or any bank — would determine how far in advance it would need to mail the check to make sure it was received by the date you requested. You also save yourself the cost of a stamp.

Here’s the beautiful thing about bill pay: If you enter all of your information correctly, you’re off the hook if the recipient says it didn’t get your payment on time. All you need to do is file a dispute with your deposit bank and it will vouch for the fact that the bill was sent on time. Your deposit bank will take care of resolving this. You need to do nothing more except to make sure that if any late fee was charged, it gets credited back to your credit card account.

I don’t recommend providing your routing and account numbers to anyone or any company casually. People need to control their information. Of course, it’s not lost on me that Capital One a few months ago disclosed its systems had been hacked earlier this year. The data breach exposed personal information for 106 million customers in the U.S. and Canada. Among the information hacked: 140,000 Social Security numbers and 80,000 linked bank account numbers.

Changes to your account services in Quicken

What happened?

Your financial institution has changed to a new method of providing data to applications like Quicken. Going forward, you'll use a bank-hosted sign-in form to authorize downloads.  The overall process for adding accounts and downloading is the same, but the screen you use to sign in to your financial institution will look different.

With this new connection method, you'll sign in to authorize your accounts directly from Quicken, rather than storing your passwords in the Quicken Password Vault.

For your security, your financial institution may periodically request that you reauthorize your accounts in Quicken by signing in again. This may happen every 90 days or so.

What does this mean for me?

Note: You will need to have your financial institution password to complete the new authorization process.

When you update or add your accounts in Quicken, you'll be prompted to authorize your accounts–just enter your financial institution username and password, check the box next to each of your accounts, and then authorize the access.  Make sure all of your accounts are checked, even if they're already added to Quicken.  See this FAQ for complete instructions for Windows.

If you have multiple accounts

You'll need to authorize your accounts for each instance of your financial institution individually.

For example, if you have a checking account with Acme Bank, and a credit card account with Acme Bank - Credit Cards, you will need to go through the process twice, one for each instance of your financial institution.  Don't worry–Quicken will prompt you if you need to go through the process more than once.

If you do need to go through the migration process more than once, it's important that you don't uncheck any accounts listed on the authorization screen, unless you don't want to see the account at all in Quicken:

If you uncheck accounts during the process, this will revoke your authorization, and prevent the accounts from updating.  If you've unchecked accounts, you can just follow this FAQ for Windows to authorize them again for download into Quicken.

NOTE: if you have multiple accounts with just one financial institution instance, you'll only need to go through the process once.

Troubleshooting

What if I'm getting an error when I try to update my accounts?

If you are getting an error when updating your accounts, we recommend to first check the Quicken Community for alerts on widespread issues or outages. You can also search for the specific error number or message in the Search Bar above. You should be able to find a resolution for your specific error.

What if I'm being asked to authorize my accounts repeatedly?

We have been investigating reports from some users of experiencing an authorization 'loop', where once the authorization has been completed for the Schwab accounts, the message to authorize continues to appear when an update is performed.

There are two potential causes to this issue:

First Cause:
This behavior may occur if you have multiple data files with Schwab accounts connected for transaction download.  At this time, the new Schwab authorization process is limited to a single data file, and if Schwab accounts are connected or authorized in a different file, the original file connection is signed out, and you will again be prompted to authorize the accounts.

Second Cause:
This behavior may occur if there are any hidden or closed Schwab accounts in your data file that are still connected for downloads.

If you experience this behavior and do not have multiple data files, please check the Account List for any hidden or closed accounts that are still connected for transaction download.

To resolve this issue - Go to the Tools menu and select "Manage Hidden Accounts" and review the list for any Schwab accounts that may be marked as hidden and/or closed. Uncheck the box so they appear in the account list again. Then go to the Tools menu > Account List and click the 'Edit' button to the right of each Schwab account name. In the window that opens, go to the middle tab for "Online Services" and select the "Deactivate" button.

Once these accounts have been deactivated from downloads, the prompt to authorize the accounts should no longer to appear.

Paying a Credit Card Early: What You Need to Know

Paying your credit card balance before its statement closes can lower your interest payments and increase your credit score. This is because paying early leads to lower credit utilization and a lower average daily balance. In this guide, we'll give local mobile mechanics near me an capital one auto bill payment look into the best time of the month to pay your credit card bill and show you why paying early can benefit your finances.

When Is The Best Time to Pay Your Credit Card Bill?

At a minimum, you should pay your credit card bill before its statement due date. Paying a credit card after this due date can result in hefty late fees and, depending on the credit card, an increased interest rate. Most banks charge somewhere between $25-$35 per late payment, so these fees can add up quickly.

Paying your credit card late can have a negative effect on your credit score, too.

Roughly 35% of your credit score is based on your bill payment history, so even one late payment can drop your credit score significantly if it's reported to a credit bureau. While banks are free to report any tardiness, in practice they most frequently report only those that are late by more than 60 days.

You can never pay your credit card too early, but be sure to check the statement period to which your early payment will be credited.

For example, if your statement closes on June 30th and you make a payment on June 29th, if you pay less than the full balance due, your payment will be credited to the previous statement. In this case, you will still need to make at least the minimum payment towards your June 30th statement.

What Happens If You Pay Your Credit Card Early?

The benefits of paying your bill in the middle of the statement period include freeing up your line of credit and helping reduce the amount of interest you may pay. We go over each of these advantages in more detail in this section.

How Paying a Credit Card Before The Statement Closes Affects Interest

Paying your credit card bill in full before the statement closes means you shouldn't have to pay any interest, unless you have been paying down a balance over several months. Most credit card issuers give you a grace period during which you're not liable for paying interest, provided you pay your account in-full before the statement due date. If you pay your balance before the statement closes, you'll see a "payments" line on your statement, reflecting the amount that's been subtracted from your statement balance.

However, if you make a final balance payment early in a billing cycle, you may be surprised to find that you still owe interest in your next payment billing cycle.

"Residual" or "trailing" interest charges happen when interest is charged between the time when your statement is issued and when you pay your bill. Most credit card companies calculate interest payments based on the average daily balance of your credit card.

When you pay your credit card before the statement closes, that average daily balance will be lower, bringing your monthly interest charge down with it.

Finally, assuming you continue to use your card for the rest of the month, paying the balance before the statement closes will reduce the minimum payment that's due at the end of the statement. However, banks calculate the minimum payment that's due in a range of ways, so check out our minimum payment guide for information specific to your bank.

How Paying Your Credit Card Early Affects Your Credit Score

Paying your credit card early can improve your credit score, especially after a major purchase. This is because 30% of your credit score is based on your credit utilization. In short, credit utilization is how much credit you're using in relation to your total credit line. For example, if have a $1,000 credit line with a $450 balance, your credit utilization is 45%.

Credit card issuers generally report account balances to credit bureaus on or around when your account statement closes. If you have a high balance on your card, your credit card issuer will report high credit utilization. This is generally seen as a negative factor by credit agencies, so your credit score may drop accordingly.

To counter this, a lower balance will be reported to credit agencies if you pay part or all of your balance before your statement closes. Since that prepayment will lower your credit utilization, which is a positive, the move will generally result in an increase to your credit score. Check out our credit utilization guide for more information.

There's no magic number for how much credit you should be utilizing. However, we've found that credit scores start to decrease when people use more than 30%-40% of their credit limit, so try to stay under this proportion.

If you frequently exceed this utilization, you may want to ask your credit card issuer for an increased credit line or spread your spending across multiple cards. Some people claim that keeping a small capital one auto bill payment balance on your card at the end of every month is beneficial to your credit score, but this is not true.

Paying Your Credit Card Early Frees Up Your Credit Line For Purchases

Lastly, paying your credit card bill early frees up credit on your account - paying your balance in full causes your credit card limit to reset. When you make a credit card payment, the amount of your payment is automatically added back to your credit line, which can be especially useful helpful if you're getting close to maxing out your credit limit.

It's extremely important to stay under your credit limit. If you're at or over your credit limit, future purchases on your card may be declined. This can be embarrassing or even disastrous if you find yourself needing an emergency car repair, or in some other financial emergency.

Your bank doesn't like it when you run out of credit either. Some banks websters dictionary citation over-limit fees when you charge beyond your credit limit, while others may decrease your credit limit or even close your account at-will. These are fairly unusual consequences, however, and few banks will impose them. Even if they are used, it shouldn't be a surprise to you, since Credit CARD Act of 2009 requires cardholders to opt in telephone number to pay my spectrum bill the use of over-limit fees on a card account.

Changes to your account services in Quicken

What happened?

Your financial institution has changed to a nevada state bank mesquite nv method of providing data to applications like Quicken.

If you uncheck accounts during the process, this will revoke your authorization, and prevent the accounts from local mobile mechanics near me If you've unchecked accounts, you can just follow this FAQ for Windows to authorize them again for download into Quicken.

NOTE: if you have multiple accounts with just one financial institution instance, you'll only need to go through the process once.

Troubleshooting

What if I'm getting capital one auto bill payment error when I try to update my accounts?
