Chase Coupons

If you have come across a Chase promotion you will probably need a coupon or a coupon code to redeem the offer. This is an important step during the account opening application process.

How Can I Get Chase Coupons?

To get a coupon you can use with applicable offers, simply use our links above for qualified promotions.

Fill in the details, including your email address, and you will receive your coupon in your inbox. Be sure to check the Junk or Spam folder if the email does not show up within a few minutes.

If you are heading to a Chase Bank branch, don’t forget to print out the coupon and take it with you. You can also redeem coupons online by entering the coupon code when asked to during the sign-up process.

If you know someone who is already a Chase customer, you can also ask them to send you an invitation. You and your friend would both receive special offers.

It’s really important to make sure the coupon code or merchant category code is applied during account opening. Chase bank’s internal systems track these codes to make sure the bonuses are applied to your bank account automatically after the qualifying activities are met.

If your bank bonus doesn’t get applied automatically, you’ll need to contact Chase and request the bonus manually. This is sometimes a difficult process, so make sure you have the right coupon code to begin with.

About Chase Bank And Its Checking Accounts

Banking is part of our everyday lives, so choosing a bank requires some thought. Other than the cash bonus you can earn by opening a Premier Checking or Total Checking Account with Chase, why else should you bank with Chase?

I like Chase’s approach. You can access top-notch mobile banking apps and other online banking tools such as online bill pay through chase.com.

But the bank also has lots of physical branches — almost 5,000 spread across 40 states and D.C. — and about 16,000 ATMs which means you can access money directly 24/7 in most areas.

You could earn interest on your balance in a Chase Premier Plus Checking Account but the rate will pale compared to an online bank. Chase’s current checking interest rate is 0.01 percent APY. The same is true for Chase’s savings account interest rates.

What you get from Chase is convenience and local access to your money through the bank’s large network of ATMs and branch offices. You can access your savings account balance through a Chase ATM, too.

Plus, the bank has mortgages, personal loans, certificates of deposit, investment accounts, and a variety of savings accounts.

To keep your checking bonus amount you’ll need to keep the new account open for at least six months. If you close the account within six months, Chase will deduct your bonus from your account balance before closing the account.

Chase will report your bonus as paid interest to the IRS.

What About Monthly Fees?

Both the Total and Premier Checking accounts charge monthly fees that you can waive pretty easily.

  • Total Checking ($200 cash bonus offer): The $12 monthly maintenance fee will be waived if you keep an average minimum daily balance of $1,500, receive $500 in qualifying direct deposit each month, or keep a $5,000 minimum daily balance combined across all your connected Chase deposit accounts.
  • Premier Checking ($300 cash bonus offer): The $25 monthly maintenance fee will be waived if you keep an average minimum daily balance of $15,000 in your Chase checking, savings, or other deposit accounts. You can also waive the fee if you have a Chase mortgage with automatic payments from the checking account. Also, Chase does not charge this monthly fee to current and former military members.

What is a Qualifying Direct Deposit?

Direct deposits qualify to exempt you from Chase’s monthly service fees if they come from your employer or from government benefits such as Social Security. This is quite a simple process to have your employer’s payroll department switch your direct deposit information. Usually, they will have you sign a form to confirm the change. You will need to provide your employer the routing number and account number for the new account you set up, and changes sometimes take a few weeks.

Transfers between your personal accounts or through services such as Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle will not qualify. Neither will Chase ATM transactions or automatic transfers between your Chase savings account and your checking.

What About Overdraft and Other Fees?

Almost all banks charge fees for overdrafts and other services. Here’s how Chase’s fees line up:

  • Overdraft: $34 per transaction up to 3 times a day.
  • Non-Chase ATM Use: $2.50 fee from Chase; other banks will charge too. ($5 outside of U.S. or Puerto Rico.)
  • Debit Card Replacement Shipping: $5 if you choose to expedite shipping; free for standard shipping.

These fees align with the fees you’d pay with other large national banks such as Citibank and Wells Fargo.

Along with the bonus paying Total Checking and Premier Plus Checking, Chase offers checking accounts designed for high school and college students, both of which have more generous terms. Chase also has Private Client Checking with a variety of perks for high wealth clients with $250,000 or more in assets.

About Chase Bank’s Credit Cards

Chase’s bonus offers on credit cards come with some other nice perks such as cashback and no annual fees:

  • Ink Business Unlimited: 1.5 percent cash back on all purchases with no annual fee; 0 percent APR for qualified applicants during the first 12 months. (13.24% – 19.24% variable APR thereafter)
  • Ink Business Cash: 5 percent cashback in some business expense categories with no annual fee; 0 percent APR for qualified applicants during the first 12 months. (13.24% – 19.24% variable APR thereafter)
  • Freedom Unlimited: 1.5 percent cash back on all purchases with no annual fee.

When you use a credit card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited to make your regular household purchases each month — and then pay off the entire balance — you can get 1.5 percent cash back on a big portion of your monthly expenses.

This is perfect for clients that purchase everything with their credit card. Typically these cash back incentives add up to big savings throughout the year and cover the annual fee of the credit card.

About Chase’s ‘You Invest’ Investment Accounts

Chase’s You Invest service and its mobile banking app dovetail nicely with Chase Bank’s other online services. You can transfer money seamlessly between your deposit accounts and your investing account.

Because Chase is a bank, it’s important to understand your invested cash will not have FDIC protections like your checking, savings, or CDs. Your investment account could lose value, just like money invested with any online brokerage.

You Invest lets you open a taxable brokerage account, a traditional IRA, or a Roth IRA. If you already have these types of merchant services with another financial institution, you can transfer them over to chase and might qualify for the $725 bonus.

If you have $2,500 or more in your investment account you can use Chase’s Portfolio Builder, a robo-advisor, at no charge. (The leading robos usually charge at least 0.25 percent of your account’s balance per year.)

If you’d rather have some guidance — which isn’t a bad idea — open a You Invest Portfolio account. You’d pay a 0.35 percent annual management fee.

Overall, You Invest provides the basics any beginning investor could need, but more advanced investors may want a service with more options.

Chase Promotion FAQs

Does Chase have any promotions right now?

Chase routinely offers a number of different promotions that can help businesses as well as individuals. The promotions are usually available for both new and existing customers.

New promotions come out all the time, so check chase.com from time to time to see which offers you can claim on any given day.

If you’re an existing Chase customer, you can earn up to $500 per year just by referring your friends and family to open up a Chase checking account. You get a referral credit, and your friend also qualifies for whatever bank account bonus they are applying for. This also works for referring small businesses when they open up a new business checking account.

Does Chase Bank give money for opening an account?

Yes, Chase Bank will give you a bonus of up to $200 for opening a checking account as noted above. But, you have to meet all the qualifying criteria which include setting up direct deposit activities within the specified time period. We go over the qualified direct deposit options below in more detail.

How many Chase Bank Promotions can I get at once?

Chase offers these incentives as a welcome bonus for NEW customers. While it’s possible to open a personal checking account, a business checking account, and a credit card simultaneously, Chase typically doesn’t allow existing customers to qualify for the exact same savings bonus twice. You will also need to meet the individual requirements and minimum deposit for each account you open.

Check carefully within the terms and conditions of each offer, and you’ll see the definitions for new or returning customers. If you sign up for one of these Chase bank promotions, you will usually need to wait 2 years before qualifying for another bonus of the same type.

There Are Many Ways to Save With Chase Bank

Whether you are new to banking, looking to change your bank to Chase, or an existing Chase client, you can find ways to save or earn bonuses through the bank.

I’ve highlighted the main ways to save money and get bonuses with Chase Bank, but remember to check chase.com for new offers that pop up all the time. In addition, Chase bank will sometimes post targeted offers in the mail to select prospects. If you get a letter from Chase with a unique promotion code, there’s a chance they are offering you a better promotion than one you can find online.

Chase Bank offers cashback options for many of its credit cards and payment waivers for account holders. Don’t miss the opportunity to up your savings game by taking advantage of these offers and promotions.

Chase Bank Bonuses Can Help Jump-Start Your Savings

I recommend Chase Bank to readers who want to start a relationship with a large brick-and-mortar bank with locations around the country. You might earn more interest with an online savings account but you won’t get the same level of customer service. Also, Chase’s mobile banking app is quite advanced and you can perform a lot of self-service activities right from your mobile phone. You can cash checks remotely, do Zelle money transfers, and manage all of your accounts within a single view.

If you’re already considering a new bank, or if you’re shopping to open your first-ever account, bank bonuses like the Chase checking account bonuses may provide the incentive you need.

The key to using bank bonuses is to save or invest the bonus, if possible. Move the money into a savings account and be sure to set up direct deposits into your checking account so you can avoid the monthly maintenance fee.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card Review

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is an elite credit card that Chase created to cater to frequent travelers. I’ve carried the card since Chase first introduced it in 2016. While it’s well known for its signup bonus and earning Chase Ultimate Rewards, some of its most valuable features are not as well known. We’ll cover all of this, and even a Chase Sapphire Reserve Rewards Calculator, in this detailed review.

A word about my approach to credit cards. As regular readers know, I save and invest ALL of my credit card rewards. For Chase Ultimate Rewards, I use them to book travel through Chase, thereby taking advantage of the 50% rewards bonus offered by the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (more on that below). When I book this “free” travel, I then take what the trip would have cost me out of my checking account and deposit it into what I call my Credit Card Financial Freedom Fund (CCFFF). As of today, my CCFFF totals over $32,000.

I mention this because I evaluate all credit cards based on numbers and nothing else. Save the Instagram pictures of somebody sipping champaign on an 8-hour flight in first class. What you never see on Instagram is the same person a week later back in their cubicle grinding away in real life. I’d prefer the financial freedom I can enjoy investing the rewards I earn.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Snapshot

  • Welcome Offer: Earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 within your first 3 months. That’s $750 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®
  • $300 Annual Travel Credit. Through December 31, 2021, gas station & grocery store purchases will count towards earning your Travel Credit.
  • 10x points on hotels, car rentals and Chase Dining booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 5x points on flights booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3X points on other travel and dining immediately after earning your $300 travel credit.
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
  • $0 foreign transaction fees.
  • Get 50% more value when you redeem your points for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
  • 1:1 point transfer to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs
  • Access to 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide after an easy, one-time enrollment in Priority Pass™
  • Select Up to $100 application fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre?®

While it does come with a high annual fee ($550), the rewards that come from using this card will make up for the annual fee cost for those who travel even once or twice a year. You’ll receive a valuable signup bonus if you meet the spending requirements, earn up to 10x points and receive $300 in annual travel credits every year.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Rewards

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card reward structure centers around Chase Ultimate Reward (CUR) points. That’s the “currency” Chase uses for rewards on several of its credit cards (Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Freedom Flex, to name a few). The key is to understand that this “currency” has different values depending on how you use it.

Before we can use CUR points, however, we must earn them. That’s where the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card comes in. With the card you earn CUR points in one of three ways: the Signup Bonus, 3x rewards, and 1x rewards.

Signup Bonus Points

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card offers 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards bonus points once you spend $4,000 or more within your first after opening your account.

So how much are 50,000 these points worth? Simply put, they are worth 1 cent each. As we’ll cover in more detail below, however, CUR points earned from the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card enjoy a 50% bonus when you redeem them for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Thus, 50,000 CUR points redeemed for travel through CUR are worth $750.

The 48-Month Rule

Here we need to add an important caveat. If you have any other Sapphire cards and received a bonus within the past 48 months, you will not be eligible for this offer. I call this the 48-Month Penalty Box.

Here’s some language from the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card application website: “This product is not available to either current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or previous cardmembers who received a new cardmember bonus for any Sapphire credit card within the last 48 months.”

Everyday Rewards

Chase recently launched a new rewards system, introducing 10x and 5x point categories. Keep in mind that these rewards are not applied when the $300 travel credit is used. Here’s what you need to know:

10x: The card pays 10 points for every dollar spent on hotels and car rentals purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards. You’ll also earn 10x points on Chase Dining purchased through CUR.

5x: You’ll earn 5 points for every $1 charged to the card on airline flights booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

3x: For travel and dining that doesn’t qualify for the 10x reward rate above, you’ll earn 3 points for every dollar charged to the card.

1x: Finally, you’ll earn 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases. For this reason, we don’t recommend the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card as an everyday card. It should be paired with a card that pays 1.5% or even 2% on all purchases.

Transactions that Do Not Earn Points

There are some transactions on the card that will not earn CUR points:

  • travel purchases that qualify for the $300 Annual Travel Credit
  • balance transfers
  • cash advances
  • travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions
  • lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions
  • any checks that access your account
  • interest
  • unauthorized or fraudulent charges
  • fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable

Redeeming Rewards

Chase offers its card holders many options when it comes to redeeming their rewards. These redemption options, however, are not created equal. We’ll get into the details, but here’s a table on redemption values:

Redemption MethodValue per Point
Checkout$0.008
Cash$0.01
Gift Cards$0.01*
Travel through Chase
Ultimate Rewards
$0.15
Transfer to Travel PartnersVaries, but as high as $0.02 or higher

*Some gift cards are sold at a 10% discount, increasing the value of Chase Ultimate Reward points.

The takeaway here is clear. Chase Ultimate Reward points should be redeemed for one of two things, and only two things–travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards or transferred to travel partners. We’ll cover those two options first, and then look at the remaining redemption methods.

50% Chase Ultimate Rewards Bonus

A key feature of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is its 50% point bonus when you redeem points for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards. The bonus turns points normally worth 1 cent into 1.5 cents. The effective result is that travel and dining purchases earn a rewards rate of 4.5% (3x points + the 50% bonus).

A word of caution. I’ve found that sometimes the cost of travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards is higher than what I can find on other websites. This is particularly true with hotels, in my experience. Chase even points this out in the fine print of Chase Ultimate Rewards terms and conditions:

The cost of travel is based on the rates and fares available through the Ultimate Rewards website and travel center, and may not reflect all rates and fares that are available through other sales channels.

Chase

So compare prices before making a final decision on any travel.

Transferring Points to Chase Travel Partners

There is no set value for points transferred to Chase travel partners. It all depends on the airline or hotel, and how you use the points or miles after the transfer. As a general rule of thumb, we assume the Chase points have a value of 1 to 2 cents after the transfer. Of course, you’ll need to do your own assessment based on the specific transfer partner and how you’ll use the rewards.

What we do know is how many points or miles you earn for each CUR point–it’s 1:1. We also know that points must be transferred in 1,000 point increments. Here are the travel partners:

  • Airline Partners
    • Aer Lingus AerClub
    • British Airways Executive Club
    • Emirates Skywards
    • Flying Blue AIR FRANCE KLM
    • Iberia Plus
    • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
    • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
    • United Airlines MileagePlus
    • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • Hotel Partners
    • IHG Rewards Club
    • Marriott Bonvoy (including Ritz-Carlton)
    • World of Hyatt

Here are more details on the other redemption option:

  • Cash
    • Redeem points for cash through an account statement credit
    • Redeem points for cash through an electronic deposit into an eligible savings or checking account located in the U.S.
  • Gift Cards
    • Choose from over 150 different companies for gift cards such as Lowe’s, Amazon, Home Depot, Airbnb, and more. Points that are used for redeeming gift cards are currently valued at 0.1 cents each, although some cards offer a 10% discount.
  • Checkout
    • When using points at checkout, such as on Amazon, the current point value is 0.8 cents.
  • Shop on Amazon
    • Connect your Chase Sapphire Reserve card account to your Amazon account and begin shopping. With this option, you can use points to help pay part or even all of an order.

Combining Points with Other Chase Credit Cards

A little known secret is that you can move Chase Ultimate Reward points between Chase credit cards. Each card must be eligible to earn CUR points. One way to take advantage of this is to get the Chase Freedom Flex card, which pays up to 5% cash back. Those rewards can be turned into CUR points and transferred to the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card where the enjoy the 50% bonus on travel purchased through CUR (see below).

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Rewards Calculator

To help you estimate the value of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card based on your specific spending habits, we’ve created the following calculator. Just enter an estimate of how much you spend with the card each month for travel, dining, and all other purchases.

Note that the first $300 spent on travel does not earn CUR points due to the $300 travel credit. Keep in mind that if you redeem points for something other than travel through CUR, the value will be higher or lower than what’s reflected in the calculator.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Travel Credits

One key feature of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card are its travel credits. The primary credit is $300 toward travel purchases, but that’s just the start.

  • $300 Travel Credit: An annual credit of $300 will automatically be applied to travel purchases on the card. In addition, through the end of 2021, gas station and grocery store purchases will also count toward earning the travel credit.
  • $100 Global Entry or $85 TSA Precheck Application Fee Statement Credit: From the Chase website, “To be eligible for this statement credit you must use your Chase Sapphire Reserve card to either complete the Global Entry application and pay the $100 application fee, or complete the TSA Precheck application and pay the $85 application fee. A statement credit will be processed after the Global Entry program application fee OR TSA Precheck application fee (whichever program is applied for first) is charged to your Chase Sapphire Reserve card. You are entitled to either: one (1) $100 statement credit per account, OR one (1) $85 statement credit per account, every 4 years in connection with the Global Entry or TSA Precheck program application fee.”
  • $60 DoorDash Credit: Earn up to $60 in statement credits on qualifying DoorDash purchases through 12/31/2021. Statement credits will automatically be applied to your account when you make qualifying DoorDash purchases, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $60.
  • $199 Lyft Membership Credit: Your Chase Sapphire Reserve account will receive one complimentary Lyft Pink membership for 12 consecutive months, a minimum value of $199, when the membership is activated with a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card by 03/31/2022.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Travel and Insurance Protection

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver: When using your Chase Sapphire Reserve Card for rental car usage, you can receive primary collision and theft coverage. To be eligible you have to decline the waiver from the rental car company collision insurance. Coverage is primary and provides reimbursement up to $75,000 for theft and collision damage for rental cars in the U.S. and abroad.

Extended Warranty Protection: Upon purchasing an item with your Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, Chase will extend the U.S. manufacturer’s warranty by one year on eligible warranties of 3 years or less.

Purchase Protection: Items bought with a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card will be protected up to 120 days from the date of purchase against damage or theft. This card will cover up to $10,000 for each claim and $50,000 each year.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance: If your trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather and other covered situations, you can be reimbursed up to $10,000 per person and $20,000 per trip for your pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses, including passenger fares, tours, and hotels.

Lost Luggage Reimbursement: If you or an immediate family member bring any luggage that becomes damaged or lost by the carrier, you will be covered up to $3,000 per passenger.

Trip Delay Reimbursement: If your carrier service becomes delayed for more than 6 hours, or requires an overnight stay, you and your family will be covered for unreimbursed expenses up to $500 per ticket.

Emergency Evacuation & Transportation: This benefit helps cover you or an immediate family member up to $100,000 in medical expenses. This is only accepted if you or the family member get injured or become sick on a trip away from home that results in an emergency evacuation.

Complimentary Airport Lounge Access: This allows you access to the 1,000+ VIP lounges in over 500 cities worldwide after an easy, one-time enrollment in Priority Pass™ Select. This gives you great relaxation time prior to your flight departure.

Lyft: You can earn 10X points on Lyft rides through March 2022.

Annual Fee

The annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is $550. Of course, the $300 travel credit makes up more than half of this amount. The other credits, if you use them, can make up much of the rest. Ultimately, however, how you use the card will determine if the card is worth the cost.

Last year the card generated $1,151.72 in rewards for me. The vast majority of this came from earning 3x rewards on travel and dining (only $28.93 came from 1x rewards). Factor in the $300 travel credit and subtract the $550 annual fee, and the net value to us was $901.72.

In contrast, had I used a 2% cash back card with no annual fee, the total rewards value would have been $537.59. So clearly the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card was well worth the cost for us. And these calculations don’t account for the other benefits, such as lounge access and travel protections.

Pros & Cons

  • 3x points on worldwide travel and dining
  • 50% more value when redeeming through Chase Ultimate Rewards

What could be better

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transfer points to an airline or hotel?

According to Chase, most transfers are processed by the next business day. However, in some cases, the transfer can take up to 7 business days.

What credit score do you need to qualify for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card ?

Chase does not disclose the exact underwriting standards need to get the card. Furthermore, factors beyond credit score are important, such as income. However, the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card does require excellent credit, which is typically above 720. That said, I’ve seen reports of some qualifying for the card with scores in the high 600s.

Is the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card worth its annual fee?

The answer depends on how you use the card. For me, the card is worth several times the annual fee. You can use this calculator to estimate the value of CSR rewards.

Final Thoughts

For my money, the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is the best travel card available today. Its rewards are easily worth $1,000 or more each year, even after factoring in the annual fee. Of course, your mileage may vary, so make sure to do the math before applying.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Eligibility

Though similar in name, these two Chase Sapphire cards vary when it comes to credit requirements. The Sapphire Preferred is more forgiving, although it still requires cardholders to have good credit to qualify. The recommended minimum credit score is around 640 to apply. However, to qualify for the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you will need excellent credit as the requirements for approval are very discriminating. For this one, you will need a minimum score of about 720 to qualify.

However, be sure about your decision before you apply. Chase limits the amount of credit cards for which you can apply during a certain period. It usually does not approve more than two personal credit cards or more than one business card in a single month. Applicants also often receive denials when they have opened five or more credit card accounts within the last 24 months.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Rewards and Benefits

No matter which card you pick, Chase delivers some pretty fantastic rewards and benefits. The Reserve card does come with more perks that are designed around the regular traveler, but the Preferred still rewards its cardholders, too.

Chase offers Sapphire cardholders a 1:1 Point Transfer. This means that with Chase Ultimate Rewards, you receive full value when you transfer your points to eligible loyalty programs from leading airlines and hotels.

Through the end of 2021, cardholders benefit from a credit of up to $60 on your Peloton Digital or All-Access membership. If you are a Reserve customer, your Pelton credit doubles to $120. You also can receive a $300 annual travel credit.

Your Sapphire card delivers peace of mind in other ways, too. If you use your card to pay for your travel, Chase will offer added protection with its travel accident insurance. It provides up to $1 million in accidental death or dismemberment coverage.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Intro Offer

Chase Sapphire credit cards come with a ton of bonus points when you open your account. To be eligible, you must spend a minimum of $4,000 within the first three months of opening your account.

The amount of bonus points you receive, however, depends on which card you have. The Preferred card offers more points than the Reserve card, giving cardholders 10,000 more points for a total of 60,000. Sapphire Reserve cardholders receive 50,000 points, which may not be as much as the Preferred, but it still makes for an excellent introductory offer. Chase redeems each point for $0.01 credit or 100 points for one dollar. However, if you book travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, the value is worth $.0125, which means that 100 points equal $1.25 in redemption value. The 60,000 introductory points for the Chase Preferred card equal $750 in travel purchases or $600 in cash.

However, it’s important to note that Chase does not offer any introductory APRs. What you get when you sign up is your regular rate, unless you are able to requalify for a better rate later on.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Fees

The Reserve card matches the Preferred card in many ways when it comes to fees. However, the Reserve runs slightly higher in a few key areas.

Membership is significantly more expensive with the Reserve card. The annual membership fee is a steep $550, while the Preferred card costs less than $100. Plus, there’s an additional fee of $75 per authorized user that gets tacked onto your bill.

The APR is different between the two cards as well, with the Reserve running a full percentage point above the Preferred. While the Preferred ranges from 15.99% to 22.99%, the Reserve starts at 16.99% and runs up to almost 24% (as of March 2021). The balance transfer APR is also the same, and there is no introductory APR for either card.

Otherwise, both cards charge a balance transfer fee of $5 or 5% of your total transfer, whichever is more. Cash advances hold a minimum of $10 per transaction or up to 5%. There are no transaction or returned check fees for either card, and both assess a 24.99% penalty on cash advances and up to $40 for late or returned payments.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve: Security

Both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve credit cards come with a host of security protections to ensure that your account is safe, no matter what happens.

Zero liability protection: Chase offers zero liability protections on its credit cards to protect you from credit card fraud. With this benefit, you don’t have to pay for unauthorized charges made using your account. Once you report the charge using the number on the back of your card, Chase will take care of the rest.

Fraud protection: The Sapphire Preferred and Reserve credit cards come with cutting-edge fraud monitoring that’s available in real-time. Even if you aren’t paying attention to your account, you can take comfort in knowing that there is a professional keeping an eye on things so your account is protected.

Fraud alerts: If suspicious or fraudulent activity is detected on your account, Chase will notify Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cardholders immediately. Notifications can be sent via text, email, or phone. You can then sign in to your account via Chase.com to review your account and correct any potential fraudulent activity that is being made.

Chip-enhanced security: Regardless of whether you open a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card, you will receive a new credit card with an embedded chip. Not only will your card be accepted by more businesses globally, but you’ll also enjoy Chase’s signature security protections, no matter where you are in the world.

FAQs

Can I Have Both Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve Cards?

Unfortunately, Chase does not allow the same cardholder to have both a Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card and a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. You will need to choose one card and then close one account before you can be approved for the other card.

Can I Downgrade From the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred?

When you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, you have the option of downgrading to a Sapphire Preferred card. Chase requires you to stay within the same family of credit cards when downgrading, which, in this case, includes the Reserve, Preferred, Freedom, and Freedom Unlimited credit cards.

Is The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Worth It?

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card comes with excellent perks that can benefit the busy traveler on the go. Instead of two times the points with the Preferred card, you’ll earn three times the points with the Reserve, allowing you to stack up travel credit or cash value fairly quickly. There’s no introductory APR, but you still get an excellent head start on your points, with up to 50,000 awarded upon the first three months when you spend $4,000 or more using your card.

Will Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve Waive The Annual Fee?

Chase offers some military discounts, which could waive the annual fee. Otherwise, members can expect to pay the regular annual fee, with an additional $75 fee per authorized user for the Reserve card.

Do Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve Card Offer Travel Insurance?

Chase offers travel insurance with both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards. As a cardholder, you will receive up to $1 million in accidental death or dismemberment coverage to keep you safe on your travels.

Expired Offers From Chase

These bonuses were recently offered by Chase, but are not available at this time through our site. Check back often as Chase may reactivate these deals or offer similar promotions in the future.

Tips and Tricks for Chase Bank Promotions

In order to earn the "free" cash from Chase, you'll need to follow the rules of each bonus offer.

These are clearly outlined in the fine print of every offer, but there are some common themes that are helpful for you to know up front:

01. Chase coupons

With most offers from Chase, you'll need to either request a "Chase coupon" by submitting your email address on that bonus offer's landing page, or apply for the account directly from that page. Each bonus has a unique landing page, which we link to from the individual bonuses above.

After submitting your email address, Chase will then send you a personalized code by email. Receiving that unique coupon code allows you to open the account at a later time (if you're not ready to go through the application process right then), or to take that coupon into your local branch.

Regardless of which path you take, you want to be sure that the coupon is being applied at the time you open the account. If not, you won't receive the bonus, regardless of whether or not you meet the other requirements.

To verify, be sure you're seeing the "we're applying your offer" call out (or something similar) on your application screen:

Chase coupon applied bonus offer on application page

Sincerely, we can't underscore this enough. Chase's internal systems track these codes and automatically reward you with the bonus once you've met the requirements.

Their online application is clear and intuitive, but if you're at all unsure, take the coupon to your local branch and have the banker verify that you're being enrolled in the offer.

02. Existing versus new customers

Most Chase bonus offers only apply to new customers.

That means you're not eligible if you currently have an existing account in that product category or if you've closed an account in that category within the past 90 days.

By "product category", we mean "consumer checking account", "business savings account" or the like.

For example, having an existing Chase Total Checking® account would not exclude you from opening a Chase Business Complete Banking℠ account and receiving that account's welcome bonus. But having a Chase Total Checking® account would exclude you from earning a Chase Secure Banking℠ welcome bonus.

03. Every 2 years limit

For nearly all Chase bonus offers, Chase limits you to receiving a welcome bonus only once every 2 years.

Again, this is within that product category or per credit card.

04. Clawbacks

For banking products, Chase will take back the welcome bonus if you close the account within 6 months. This 6-month clause also applies if Chase is the one who closes the account – if you're violating their terms, for example.

05. Chase credit card restrictions

Chase is well known for its 5/24 rule, which says cardholders cannot get a new Chase credit card if they have 5 credit card inquiries in the last 24 months. This is why many will advise you to sign up for any Chase credit cards first, before moving onto other issuers.

Beyond the 5/24 rule, Chase limits the bonus per card to once every 2 years, like we mentioned earlier.

06. Taxes

Remember that like all bank promotions, bonuses from Chase Bank are taxable. Unlike your regular salary, Chase does not withhold interest from your earned bonuses. Instead, Chase will send you a 1099-INT at the end of the year, and that bank interest will be taxed as ordinary income.

The exception here are credit card offers. Credit card rewards are typically treated as a rebate or discount by the IRS, rather than income. So earning a welcome bonus for opening a new Chase credit card is not usually taxable.

07. Fine print

Ultimately, every offer is unique. While the above tips are typical of most Chase coupons, they aren't guarantees. Make sure to thoroughly read the fine print of the bonus you're interested in.

Also know that offers can be changed at any time. Until you've fully enrolled in that offer by opening the account, the terms aren't "locked in".

That also means that the promotion may end earlier than the advertised expiration date – and truly, that happens all the time, even from a relatively consistent bank like Chase. If you're interested in a bonus, don't wait until the last minute to enroll.

Chase Bank Promotions FAQs

How do I find a Chase coupon code?

You can find most of Chase's active coupon codes right on this page. From time to time Chase offers targeted offers that may vary slightly from what you see here.

Are sign-up bonuses from Chase Bank taxed?

Yes, all bonuses coming from Chase promotions will be reported to the IRS and taxed as income. Keep this in mind when you're figuring out your total return on any given offer.

The exception here is credit card bonuses. Since most credit cards require a minimum spending amount to qualify for a bonus, the reward doesn't count as taxable income.

Do Chase offers expire?

Yes. As with most bank bonuses, Chase offers usually have expiration dates (see above examples).

Again, bonuses are fluid. Don't feel like you have to jump on one just because it's about to expire. There will be others later on.

With that said, if you find a great bonus with an account you want, there's no point in waiting. It could be a while before the same coupon becomes available again. So if you're sure, just go for it.

How long does it take to get paid a bonus from Chase?

Account bonus payouts vary in the amount of time they take to hit your account. With Chase, most bonuses will arrive within 15 days of completing the qualifying activities.

If you haven't received your bonus in the expected amount of time, double-check to make sure you didn't miss anything in the requirements, and contact the customer support team to find out what the hold up is.

Can I use multiple Chase promotions?

Probably not. Most coupons are only available to new Chase customers, and you usually only get one shot at a particular bonus.

Keep in mind that by "new", we mean new for that particular account category. For example, receiving a Chase Total Checking® sign up bonus doesn't keep you from also getting a savings account bonus. It only excludes you from other checking account promotions.

The only exceptions are referrals and bonuses that require you to upgrade to a premium account (e.g., Private Client Checking).

For example, if you already received a sign-up bonus for your initial account, you'll still be eligible for upgrade incentives. However, you may also have to deposit a huge sum of money to qualify for that upgrade bonus, which counts the average consumer out.

Which Chase Promotion is Best for You?

When it comes to sign-up offers, it's hard to find a big bank that does it better than Chase.

And while you should never choose a bank solely based on a sign-up bonus, there's plenty to like with Chase once you get in the door. Check out the full review.

As you comb through your options, keep two other things to keep in mind: Always watch out for disclaimers and fine print.

If you miss a specific qualifier, you could be missing out. You should also weigh any account fees against what you'll be earning in a bonus.

For example, a $25 monthly account fee can nullify a $250 sign-up bonus pretty quickly.

Now that you know all about the coupons available from Chase, you are a step or two closer to deciding whether or not it's the right banking partner for you.

Good luck!

Is Chase the Right Bank for You?

Chase bonuses can be lucrative if you meet the qualifications to open an account and earn the bonus. But that shouldn’t be the only reason you open an account. It’s more important to find a bank that offers products and services that meet your financial needs. Chase is a large, national bank with plenty of branches and convenient ATMs. If you can meet the requirements to avoid hefty fees, it may be worth a second look at what Chase offers.

Ready for a BIG bonus? Chase is offering existing and new customers $1,000 to upgrade or open a new Chase Sapphire Banking checking account!

I’ve been a Chase customer for over 10 years because they are one of the largest, most reputable banks in America. In addition to being a banking client, I also have their Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Ink Business Preferred, two of the best premium personal and business credit cards available due to their unreal benefits.

Now, Chase also has leveled up their banking game by launching the Chase Sapphire Banking account. If you have a chunk of money available, this is the biggest bank bonus ever!

Chase Sapphire Banking $1,000 bonus landing page

What is Chase Sapphire Banking?

Chase Sapphire Banking is a premium checking account that was introduced in 2019. It’s part of their Sapphire product line. Features and benefits include:

  • No fees on ATMs worldwide, including refunds on fees charged by non-Chase ATM owners
  • No fees on everyday banking, including foreign exchange fees, outgoing wire transfers and stop payments
  • Higher ATM limits with the Sapphire Banking debit card
  • Access to Sapphire lounges at concerts, sports and special events, early ticket sales and premium seats
  • Advice from Chase’s specialists in banking, home lending and small business

Where do I enroll in the Chase Sapphire Banking bonus?

Ninja Update 8/9/21: The $1,000 offer has expired and is no longer available on any site. I have a list of the best bank bonuses currently available on this page.

I’ll update the post if this specific Chase bonus comes back. I’m also working to get a different Chase personal checking account promotion for my readers – stay tuned!

You can enroll two different ways; either enter your email address so Chase can send you a code to print out and bring it to a local branch or apply directly online with the coupon code automatically connected to your application.

Two ways to get the Chase Sapphire Banking bonus offer

Who qualifies for the Chase Sapphire Banking bonus?

The offer is open to the public and you can either be an existing Chase bank customer upgrading to the Sapphire Banking account or a new customer opening a Chase Sapphire banking account for the first time.

However, if you currently have a Sapphire Banking account or you’re a Chase Private Client customer, you won’t get the bonus. Also, you’re not eligible for the bonus if you’ve gotten this specific bonus before in the last 12 months.

I emphasized specific because other Chase checking and savings account bonuses you may have done don’t count against this one.

What are the details?

In order to get the $1,000 bonus, you need to:

  • Within 45 days of account opening, transfer $75,000 or more qualifying new money or securities to Chase and maintain that balance for 90 days

You don’t need to transfer all of the money into the Chase Sapphire banking account. It can be a combination of that account and other eligible accounts you have at Chase:

  • Eligible Accounts: personal checking, savings, J.P. Morgan investment accounts (You Invest Brokerage and accounts opened in a Chase branch and serviced by a J.P. Morgan Private Client Advisor or Financial Advisor).

Availability: Public offer
Expiration: 04/27/2020
Household Limit: None (everyone in your family can get the bonus!)
Direct Deposit Required: Yes, $75,000
Early Account Termination Fee: None, although normally Chase claws back the bonus if the account is closed within 6 months, but it’s not clear if it’s also the case here

Avoiding Fees

The Chase Sapphire Banking account charges a monthly fee of $25 a month. You can waive this fee by maintaining a monthly average balance of $75,000 or more in your various Chase accounts.

This isn’t an issue if you’re doing the bonus because you need to keep at least $75,000 in it anyways.

The Bottom Line

Previously, Chase offered a $750 bonus for opening this account, so this is an extra $250. They have also offered 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points in the past as well (which is worth around $1,000 too depending on how you use the points).

If you’re not into the points game, then this $1,000 bonus is clearly a superior offer. As far as strategy goes, keep in mind you can do this bonus once every 12 months. You can do other Chase bank bonuses once every 24 months.

Again, Chase considers these to be separate types of bonuses so you can do both and they’re on separate clocks. In other words, doing this bonus doesn’t make you ineligible for the other Chase checking/savings bonuses.

All in all, although the transfer requirements are higher than usual, this is a hefty bonus that’s worth doing!

Chase Sapphire Preferred Review 2021: 60k Bonus!

I’ve held the Chase Sapphire Preferred for the last few years, and have used it as my go-to rewards card. With a low annual fee of $95 and no foreign transaction fees, this contactless card has helped me travel around the globe. Even during the pandemic when I wasn’t traveling, I was still able to use the Sapphire Preferred on several items, including everyday spending. I love the ability to earn more points in the new bonus categories just announced.

Even now, it’s still the first product I recommend to friends and family members. I’ll explain why in this Chase Sapphire Preferred review post.

60,000 Point Sapphire Preferred Bonus

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Cardcurrently has an offer of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 in 3 months from account opening. That’s $750 when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. Ultimate Rewards points are my personal favorite rewards points, mostly for their transfer partners and flexibility.

After spending $4,000 in the first 3 months with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you would have 64,000 Ultimate Rewards points. Ultimate Rewards points can be redeemed at a 1:10 ratio for cash back. But the best way to get value out of Sapphire points is to redeem them for travel.

Beyond the sign-up bonus, you’ll earn unlimited:

  • 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards® (excluding hotel purchases that qualify for the $50 Anniversary Hotel Credit)
  • 5x points on Lyft rides (through March 2022)
  • 3x points on dining (including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out)
  • 3x points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target®, Walmart®, and wholesale clubs)
  • Also 3x points on select streaming services
  • 2x points on all other travel purchases
  • 1x point per $1 spent on all non-bonus purchases

There is a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit. It comes in the form of a statement credit that will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50.

Plus, on each account anniversary, you’ll earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year. So, if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you’ll get 2,500 bonus points.

Combined with the Sapphire Preferred card’s array of travel protections and insurances (not to mention its lack of a foreign transaction fee), this card is a solid option for earning points while traveling abroad. It’s often considered one of the best credit cards for international travel.

Additional Perks for 2021

Additional Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits include unlimited deliveries with no delivery fee and reduced service fees on orders over $12 for a minimum of one year on qualifying food purchases with a DoorDash DashPass subscription. Activate your card by December 31, 2021.

Points are worth 25% more now when redeemed for statement credits against existing purchases in select, rotating categories with the Chase Pay Yourself Back feature.

Additionally, cardholders can earn up to $60 in statement credits on Peloton Digital and All-Access Memberships through December 31, 2021. Cardholders don’t need a Peloton bike or treadmill to take advantage of the digital membership that includes 1,000s of on-demand or live fitness classes. Also to note, new Peloton Digital Members are entitled to a 30-day free trial, by visiting Onepeloton.com/ChaseSapphire and enrolling using your Sapphire Preferred card.

So if you order in and use ridesharing programs (like I do when I travel), these additional perks are a plus. It’s one of the best credit cards for eating at home.

The Sapphire Points Program

The Ultimate Rewards program is one of the most important points that make the Sapphire Preferred a top card. You can see my review of the best travel credit cards here. Of course, you can redeem UR points for merchandise, gift cards, cash back, or statement credits.

For travel, you can redeem your Ultimate Rewards points through their online portal, and you will get a 25% redemption bonus.

So, 60,000 points are worth $750 in travel when you redeem your UR points through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Not bad. This can be a good use of your UR points if you want to book a cruise or domestic flight (when there’s no availability on a transfer partner, or you want to fly an airline that isn’t a transfer partner).

Chase Sapphire Preferred Fee and Benefits

The Chase Sapphire Preferred financial center credit union mobile app an annual fee of $95. As an incentive, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card review comes with some protections:

  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance
  • Travel and Emergency Assistance Services
  • Roadside Dispatch
  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
  • Extended Warranty Protection
  • Purchase Protection
  • Price Protection
  • Return Protection

It’s also one of the best credit cards with travel insurance perks.

Other Enticing Perks

The value of Chase Ultimate Rewards points is what really sets the Chase Sapphire Preferred review apart from competitors, but it still has a lot of daily spending and travel perks.

You will earn 3x UR points on dining (one of the best credit cards for restaurants and dining).

Also, enjoy new Chase Sapphire benefits such as a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit, 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, and 2x points on all other travel purchases, plus more.

Nifty. It’s also great for traveling since there are no foreign transaction fees, and it’s enabled with chip technology.

I’m also a big fan of the dedicated customer support that you have by calling the number on the back of your card. Other travel benefits include trip cancellation/insurance, baggage or trip delay reimbursements, primary CDW car rental insurance, and travel accident insurance. Plus, you get the benefits of purchase protection and an extended warranty on eligible purchases. The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is a metal credit card, making it strong and durable for all of the travel adventures you’ll be having.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is also a Visa Signature card, so it comes with additional sweet benefits.

60,000 points bonus: Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Should the Chase Sapphire Preferred be the First Rewards Card You Try for?

It is harder to get approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred than it was a couple of years ago. Many people are reporting being denied if they have had more than 5 other credit card applications in the last 24 months (due to the Chase 5/24 rule). This means that it’s more important than ever to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card before other cards if you’re new to travel rewards credit cards.

This is simply because if you were to apply for some other cards before the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you wouldn’t be eligible. No one wants that.

If you’ve had the Chase Sapphire Preferred card before, you can apply again as long as it’s been 24 months since you last received the bonus (and you’re within the 5/24 rules above). The Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Capital One Venture review may be worth checking out if you’re wanting to compare it to another top travel credit card.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is not a good card for you if:

  • Have no interest in redeeming points for travel
  • Don’t travel often
  • Your job has issued you a credit card to cover any travel expenses
  • Don’t commute to work or pay for tolls
  • You don’t eat out often
  • No interest in traveling

If none of the above apply to you, the Chase Sapphire Preferred can be a great addition to your wallet.

Ultimate Rewards Transfer Partners

Now, to my favorite part. The Ultimate Rewards transfer partners are a huge reason why the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the first card I recommend to new users. You can just do so many things with your points. Whether your travel goal is an international trip to Europe, or you just want to go to Orlando, Florida, Ultimate Rewards points can make it happen.

What airlines can be used with Chase Sapphire?

Domestic airline transfer options include Southwest and United. I’ve flown Southwest from Austin to Newark for just over 7,000 points one-way. United domestic awards start at 10,000 miles one-way. But the great thing about being able to transfer your UR points out to travel partners is that once you have a mile in a certain airline’s loyalty program, you can fly ANY airline that’s a partner or in the same alliance as that airline.

Transfer Examples

Let me explain: You can fly American Airlines by transferring your Ultimate Rewards points to British Airways Avios because they are in the same OneWorld Alliance. And British Airways has a distance-based award chart that starts at only 4,000 miles one-way internationally, and 7,500 Avios domestically. Whaaaaat.

You can also use your UR miles to transfer out to Singapore Airlines and fly United domestically since they are both in the Star Alliance. Why do that? Because you can actually use less Singapore miles for United flights domestically (40k round-trip in business) and to Hawaii (35k round-trip in economy class) than through redeeming with United miles. Go figure.

International Flights

Don’t care about domestic flights? Let’s talk about how to use your Ultimate Rewards points for international travel. I love transferring my UR points out to Singapore Air for travel in one of their premium cabins.

You can fly Singapore Suites for as cheap as 57,375 KrisFlyer miles from JFK-FRA. United Airlines is also a great option for international flights since they have a lot of flights to & from a lot of cities.

For example, award flights to Europe start at only 60,000 miles one-way in economy class. United is in the Star Alliance, where a favorite airline of mine, Lufthansa, is also a partner. There was even a sale this year on Lufthansa business class awards through United. Using only 57,500 United miles for a Lufthansa business class seat is a good deal.

Hyatt

I’ve also used my Ultimate Rewards points from my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card many times for hotel redemptions. Usually, I’m transferring my UR points out to Hyatt just for you flowers chilton an award stay or cash & points stay. We’ve stayed at 2 Hyatt properties in Australia and loved both of them. Hard not to like a Park Hyatt, though.

60,000 points bonus: Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Chase Sapphire Preferred Airline Partners

The Chase Sapphire Preferred’s Ultimate Rewards airline transfer partners include:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Iberia Plus
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • United MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

The full list of Ultimate Rewards partners is Aer Lingus, Air Canada (expected later in 2021), British Airways, Air France KLM, JetBlue, Singapore Airlines, Southwest, United, Virgin Atlantic, Iberia, Emirates, Chase sapphire checking $750 bonus of Hyatt, IHG, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Why Go With a Chase Bank Travel Card?

The perks vary with each Chase credit card, but here’s what you can gain by taking advantage of the Chase Sapphire Preferred:

Combine points between your eligible Chase cards: With Chase, you can transfer your points to other Ultimate Rewards credit cards (as long as it’s in good standing) held by you, your spouse, or your domestic partner. If you’re saving up for a big trip, that can be hugely helpful.

Transfer your points to an airline partner: The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card let you transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to any of its airline transfer partners, including United, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Southwest Airlines—not to mention all of their partnered airlines.

Transfer your points to a hotel partner: The same Chase cards will also let you transfer your points to its 4 hotel partners: IHG, Marriott Bonvoy, and Hyatt. You’ll generally get much better value out of transferring your points to an airline partner, but Hyatt stands out for offering great value on some of its award bookings.

Redeem points for more toward travel: With the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred, your points will be worth 1.25 cents each toward travel purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards travel portal. You can take advantage of that redemption rate to book flights, hotel stays, car rentals, cruises, and more through Chase.

Earn more on your purchases in 7 spending categories: If you carry all 3 of these cards, you can maximize your rewards by using each card primarily for its bonus categories. Those 7 spending categories include a wide variety of purchases, like travel, dining, shipping costs, internet, cable, and phone services, and more.

What About Your Credit?

To get your hands on this sleek blue metal Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and open your world up to a renowned points system, you’re going to need an ‘excellent’ credit score. The average score for approval is 741.

But, take note, that isn’t a hard line. One review on CreditKarma said they got approved with only ‘fair’ credit, claiming a score of 690 on FICO and 680 on Equifax.

1. Credit score from a credit report

In doing research on the web, we found many people who applied for the Sapphire Preferred had their Equifax credit report checked. It’s not necessarily normal for lenders to check all 3, but it can pose a problem because not all lenders report to the 3 bureaus.

This means there’s a chance there’s varying information out there. So, we suggest checking out your Equifax score before applying and see if it’s in line with your other scores.

2. How much debt you have

Rule of thumb: don’t is chase bank open on mardi gras more than 30 percent of your available credit. So if you have a credit line of $2,500 – you shouldn’t have a balance of over $750. And by balance, we mean debt. You can spend more than that a month – just pay it off.

After reviewing reports online, we found some people who applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred claim to have been denied for holding high balances – or debts – on other cards.

3. How many credit cards you have open

We also found that people claimed they were denied for having too many cards open. Some people even had ‘excellent’ credit scores but were denied anyway. So, if you’ve opened a number of cards in the last few years it could be a problem for approval for the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

But remember, just because one person got denied doesn’t mean you will. When applying it’s important to take a comprehensive look at all three elements of your credit above, as well as other factors and weigh your chances.

Do You Qualify For the Chase Sapphire Preferred Sign-up Bonus?

Before you apply for this larger sign-up bonus, it’s key that you review the Chase Sapphire application guidelines and the bonus offer qualifications.

Hint: There’s more to the fine print than spending $4,000 in the first 3 months to earn the bonus.

Returning Sapphire Members Must Wait Months

For starters, you qualify for the Sapphire Preferred bonus when you haven’t received a new cardmember bonus from any Sapphire card in the past 48 months. You also cannot currently own another Sapphire product.

For example, if you currently own the Sapphire Reserve, you would have to cancel your card and wait 48 months to apply for the Sapphire Preferred to earn the new signup bonus. Are the extra points worth waiting for 4 years?

Every person needs to remember the “Chase 5/24 rule.” This is an unpublished policy that disqualifies you from owning the best Chase credit cards when you open at least 5 new credit card accounts in the most recent 24 months.

How to get the most out of your Ultimate Rewards

Now that we know how to earn points and some of the basic ways to redeem them – let’s dive into the fun stuff: learning how to make your points go further and get you better deals.

Another great aspect of the Sapphire Preferred is that there are a lot of ways you can make your points go further.

1. Chase Sapphire Preferred Reviews with other Chase cards

Chase allows you to combine the points you earn with your Sapphire Preferred with the other Chase credit cards you use, like the Chase Freedom Flex℠ credit card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Your total points are going to vary though, depending on how much you spend on each card and the categories you’re earning points in.

It’s all about maximizing the points earning potential on each card, so make sure you purchase the right things on the right card – like all travel and dining on Sapphire Preferred, and business expenses on the Ink Business.

2. Chase shopping portal

By using the Chase shopping portal to purchase everything from big expenses to appliances, or even household items you can earn 3 to 12 times the number of points you would simply by using the Sapphire Preferred.

This is an awesome option because the Sapphire Preferred is really about travel and not everyday purchases – as those will only get you 1 point per $1 spent. So if you want to use your Sapphire Preferred to buy an everyday item, be sure to check out the Chase shopping portal first. By purchasing items through Chase partners like Sam’s Club, Apple, and Bed Bath & Beyond in the portal, you can earn some serious extra points you’d otherwise miss.

3. Partner programs

Like we mentioned above, retailers like Walmart partner with the Chase shopping portal often to offer you extra points and earning potential you might otherwise be excluded from on your card. These extra points can vary from 3x the points to 12x the points – so it’s always a good idea to check out what’s being offered in the Chase shopping portal before you do any online shopping.

Chase also partners with a variety of companies in the travel industry so you can redeem all those travel points you’ve been racking up. Best yet – their travel partners often offer better deals than the Chase standard points to dollar conversion of 1 point to $.0125. In fact, you can earn up to $.05 per point depending on the travel partner.

4. Booking travel with cash rather than points can save you more

The Chase travel portal offers some awesome deals – but that doesn’t mean they’re always the best deal out there. It’s important when shopping for a travel ticket or hotel through the travel portal that you still shop around – checking out comparative websites like Kayak, TripAdvisor, etc.

This is because if the deal on the Chase Travel Portal is about the same as the ticket price on other websites, you can actually earn more by buying the ticket outside the portal than cashing in on the points you’ll earn from buying the ticket. This way, you can use your points to buy a ticket that’s a bit more pricy down the line, or really snag a great deal through the travel portal later on.

5. Don’t use the travel portal for international travel

By using the travel portal itself, you’re only getting $0.0125 per every point you have – and hey, international travel is expensive! So instead, make sure you check out the Chase travel partners and the deals they have. A Chase travel partner can get you up to $0.05 per point – meaning your points can take you further.

A Reminder of the Chase Sapphire Preferred Additional Benefits

Also, enjoy new Chase Sapphire benefits such as a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit, 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, 3x points on dining, and 2x points on all other travel purchases, plus more.

Cardholders also earn 5x points on Lyft rides, through March 2022.

Additional Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits include unlimited deliveries with no delivery fee and reduced service fees on orders over $12 for a minimum chase sapphire checking $750 bonus one year on qualifying food purchases with a DoorDash DashPass subscription. Activate your card by December 31, 2021.

Plus, cardholders can earn up to $60 in statement credits on Peloton Digital and All-Access Memberships through December 31, 2021.

Points are worth 25% more when redeemed for statement credits against existing purchases in select, rotating categories with the Chase Pay Yourself Back feature.

Upgrade Your Chase Sapphire Preferred to a Sapphire Reserve: A Step-by-Step Guide

Are you wondering if it’s possible to upgrade your Chase Sapphire Preferred into a Chase Sapphire Reserve? The process is easier than you might think to get one of the best rewards cards. Upgrading is also the quickest way to get a Chase Sapphire Reserve if you are a current Sapphire Preferred owner.

For current and returning Sapphire members, there are strict Chase One chart palmetto health application rules. Chase explicitly states either Sapphire credit card, “is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.”

If you want a Chase Sapphire Reserve®, your best option is to request an upgrade. Closing or downgrading your Sapphire Preferred account means you have to wait 48 months (that’s 4 really long years) from the month you received your Chase Sapphire Preferred sign-up bonus before Chase approves your Chase Sapphire Reserve application.

Can You Upgrade Your Chase Sapphire Preferred?

Before attempting to upgrade your Chase Sapphire Preferred, make sure you meet these basic qualifications:

  • Your Chase Sapphire Preferred account is at least 12 months old
  • The account is in good standing
  • You have excellent credit

The Sapphire Reserve is a Visa Infinite product that carries a minimum $10,000 credit limit. However, the Sapphire Preferred is a Visa Signature card that only guarantees a minimum $5,000 credit limit.

Like any credit card application, approval isn’t guaranteed when requesting an upgrade. Chase doesn’t publicly disclose its upgrade criteria.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Signup Bonus

The largest potential downside of upgrading to the Chase Sapphire Reserve is that you won’t qualify for its current 50,000-point signup bonus.

New Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardmembers can earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, worth $750 towards travel when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.

In the signup bonus offer details, Chase states “You will not receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products.”

To be fair, this is the same policy when you downgrade from a Sapphire Reserve to the Sapphire Preferred.

Call Chase to Upgrade

If you’re ready to upgrade, the upgrade process is very straightforward.

On the Chase Sapphire Reserve information page, Chase recommends existing Sapphire cardmembers call the phone number on the back of their current Sapphire credit card to check their eligibility status. In most cases, you should receive a decision within a few minutes.

Another option is sending a secure message by logging into your Chase online account. Simply say you want to upgrade to a Sapphire Reserve account and you should receive a response within four hours, though this may vary.

No Hard Inquiry (Possibly)

One benefit of upgrading products is that Chase shouldn’t perform a hard credit check. This should be the case if your Sapphire Preferred credit limit chase sapphire checking $750 bonus at least $10,000. But if your credit limit is below this magic mark, it’s like requesting a manual credit limit increase instead of waiting for Chase to automatically raise your card limit.

If Chase only conducts a soft pull, the upgrade won’t count against your Chase 5/24 limit.

If you know someone who is already a Chase customer, you can also ask them to send you an invitation. You and wells fargo custom debit card reddit friend would both receive special offers.

What walmart edmond ok i 35 a Qualifying Direct Deposit?

Regardless of which path you take, you want to be sure that the coupon is being applied at the time chase sapphire checking $750 bonus open the account.

B of a atm locations near me having a Chase Total Checking® account would exclude you from earning a Chase Secure Banking℠ welcome bonus.

Yes. As with most bank bonuses, Chase offers usually have expiration one west bank reviews (see above examples).

Again, bonuses are fluid. Don't feel like you have founders bank charlotte nc jump on one just because it's about to expire. There will be others later on.

With that said, if you find a great bonus with an account you want, there's no point in waiting. It could be a while before the same coupon becomes available again. So if you're sure, just go for it.

How long does it take to get paid a bonus from Chase?

Can I use multiple Chase promotions?

Probably not. Most coupons are only available to new Chase customers, and you usually only get one shot at a particular bonus.

Keep in mind that by "new", we mean new for that particular account category. For example, receiving a Chase Total Checking® sign up bonus doesn't keep you from also getting a savings account bonus. It only excludes you from other checking account promotions.

The only exceptions are referrals and bonuses that require you to upgrade to a premium account (e.g., Private Client Checking).

For example, if you already received a sign-up bonus chase sapphire checking $750 bonus your initial account, you'll still be eligible for upgrade incentives.

Good luck!

Correction: In the original version of this post I wrote that the reader had applied online for the business banking account, but he had actually applied in-branch and received the credit card offers described below via email.

A reader going by SamBam reached out with a very interesting find.  After opening a  Business Complete Banking account in-branch in order to earn $750, he was emailed an interesting deal on his choice of two Ink Business cards:

Ink Business Preferred 160K Offer

  • 100,000 points after $15,000 spend in first three months
  • 60,000 points after $50k total spend in first six months
  • Total: 160,000 bonus points after $50K spend

Ink Business Unlimited 200K Offer

  • $750 back (75,000 points) after $7500 spend in first three months
  • $1250 back (125,000 points) after $50k spend in total spend first six months.
  • Total: $2,000 (200,000 points) after $50K spend

In both cases, the first part of the promotion exactly matches the current public offers for these cards.  The new part is the extra bonus you get with a total of $50,000 spend in six months.  Of the two offers, the Ink Business Unlimited offer is clearly better (assuming you complete the $50K spend).  Plus, since the Ink Business Unlimited earns 1.5x everywhere, the $50K spend will generate another 75K points for a total haul of 275,000 points.  That’s an average of 5.5 points per dollar with $50K spend.

If you want to try your luck to see if you’ll be offered something similar, you can apply for the business banking account online:

    • Public offer link: account.chase.com/consumer/business/XT49992
    • To earn $750, you must:
      1. Open a new Chase Business Complete Checking account with your offer code (use the link above to get the offer emailed to you)
      2. Deposit a total of $10,000 or more in new money within 30 days of coupon enrollment and maintain a $10,000 balance for 60 days.
      3. Complete 25 qualifying transactions within 90 days of coupon enrollment. Qualifying transactions include debit card purchases, Chase QuickAccept deposits, Chase QuickDeposit, ACH (Credits), wires (Credits and Debits).
    • Doctor of Credit has more info about the deal here

My Take

I don’t know about you, but personally I’m not going to pursue this because I’m too busy trying to meet minimum spend on multiple cards: 100K Capital One Venture offer, 100K Chase Sapphire Preferred offer, 150K Amex Business Platinum add-on, etc…  That said, if you’re a big spender and you like your Ultimate Rewards points (who doesn’t?), this combination of bank bonus and new credit card bonus could be hard to pass up!
