Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card
We may change APRs, fees, and other Account terms in the future based on your experience with Elan Financial Services and its affiliates as provided under the Cardmember Agreement and applicable law.
1. You will earn 2 Points per dollar in eligible net purchases (net purchases are purchases minus credits and returns) that you charge. Account must be open and in good standing to earn and redeem rewards and benefits. Upon approval, refer to your Program Rules for additional information. You may not redeem Reward Points, and you will immediately lose all of your Reward Points, if your Account is closed to future transactions (including, but not limited to, due to Program misuse, failure to pay, bankruptcy, or death). Reward Points will not expire as long as your Account remains open. Certain transactions are not eligible for Reward Points, including Advances (as defined in the Agreement, including wire transfers, travelers checks, money orders, foreign cash transactions, betting transactions, lottery tickets and ATM disbursements), Annual Fee, convenience checks, balance transfers, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, overdraft advances, interest charges, fees, credit insurance charges, transactions to fund certain prepaid card products, U.S. Mint purchases, or transactions to purchase cash convertible items. The 2% cash back rewards value applies only to Points redeemed for a deposit into an eligible Fidelity account. The redemption value is different if you choose to redeem your Points for other rewards such as travel options, merchandise, gift cards, and/or statement credit. Other restrictions apply. Full details appear in the Program Rules new card customers receive with their card. Establishment or ownership of a Fidelity account or other relationship with Fidelity Investments is not required to obtain a card or to be eligible to use Points to obtain any rewards offered under the program other than Fidelity Rewards.
Because the interest and other fees charged on any outstanding balance are greater than the cash value of the rewards points, you may pay more in fees and interest than the value of the points you earn if you do not pay your bill in full each month.
To receive a deposit, you must link your eligible Fidelity® account to your card. This can be accomplished in any of following ways. 1. You may contact Elan Financial Services Customer Service at the toll-free phone number located on the back of your credit card and provide them with your eligible Fidelity® account (s) number. 2. Simply select the “Manage Reward Points” hyperlink from the credit card snapshot page on Fidelity.com and follow the easy steps. You may also watch a brief video that describes the linking process on the credit card snapshot page also found on Fidelity.com. Please note that automatic redemptions will occur on a monthly basis as long as you have reached the point redemption threshold of 2,500 Points.
Eligible accounts include most nonretirement registrations as well as Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Rollover IRA, SEP IRA, Fidelity Charitable® Giving Account®, Fidelity HSA®, and Fidelity®-managed 529 College Savings Plan accounts. The ability to contribute to an IRA or 529 college savings plan account is subject to IRS rules and specific program policies, including those on eligibility and annual and maximum contribution limits. Full details appear in the Program Guidelines new card customers receive with their card. Contributions to Fidelity Charitable® are generally eligible for a federal income tax charitable deduction. Please consult with your tax advisor. The list of eligible registration types may change without notice at Fidelity’s sole discretion. For more information about whether a particular registration is eligible, please call 1-800-FIDELITY (800-343-3548).
5. Certain restrictions apply to each benefit. Details accompany new account materials.
Elan Financial Services provides zero fraud liability for unauthorized transactions. Cardmember must notify Elan Financial Services promptly of any unauthorized use. Certain conditions and limitations may apply.
Cardmembers are responsible for the cost of any goods or services purchased by the Visa Signature Concierge on cardmembers’ behalf.
8. Fidelity Rewards+ generally requires $250,000 invested through Fidelity® Wealth Services, Fidelity® Strategic Disciplines, or a combination of both registered as an individual account, a joint account, or certain types of revocable trusts. Assets in other registration types, such as irrevocable trusts, partnerships, or LLCs, will not be included when determining program eligibility. Fidelity Rewards is not offered as a component of any advisory service or program through Fidelity, including, without limitation, Fidelity® Wealth Services and Fidelity® Strategic Disciplines. This holiday season is shaping up to be a busy time for travel. AAA is predicting an 80% increase in air travel from last Thanksgiving, when most travelers stayed home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to The Washington Post. If you're planning on traveling during the holidays, there are ways to avoid standing in a long security line at the airport.
TSA PreCheck, Global Entry and Clear are programs that allow you to breeze through airport security. But before you plunk down money on these program fees -- and after you digested the security and privacy concerns of enrolling such a program -- you may want to look at the many credit cards that cover the costs. Similarly, you can redeem loyalty points or frequent-flyer miles to get a free TSA PreCheck, Global Entry or Clear membership.
To save you from digging through the details of your next credit card statement or rewards program FAQ page, I've assembled in one convenient spot the credit cards and loyalty programs that cover all or some of the cost of TSA PreCheck, Global Entry or Clear. Check out the lists and links below.

What do these programs do?
TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are run by the US government, while a private company operates Clear.
- TSA PreCheck is run by the US Transportation Security Administration and expedites the airport security screening process. This gets you access to a faster PreCheck line (where available) and you won't have to remove your shoes, belt, jacket or laptop during the security screening.
- Global Entry, run by the US Customs and Border Protection, includes all of the advantages of TSA PreCheck and adds an express line through customs and immigration for international travelers returning to the US.
- Clear is privately operated and lets you bypass the main security line or the TSA PreCheck line at the airport. After checking in at a kiosk, you'll be escorted to the front of the security line, where you won't be required to show your ID. Then you'll go through a security screening as usual -- unless you also have PreCheck. Clear also offers a free version of its service called Clear Sports that provides expedited entry into a handful of stadiums around the country.

How much do these programs usually cost?
TSA PreCheck costs $85 for five years. Global Entry costs $100 for five years. Clear is considerably more expensive at $179 per year. The ideal combination is Global Entry and Clear, letting you breeze through the security line, then going through screening without reorganizing your entire wardrobe. But that's expensive, so, read on.
How to get TSA PreCheck or Global Entry for free
In most cases, if a credit card features a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry benefit, it gives you the choice of a $100 credit to cover the cost of Global Entry or an $85 credit to cover the cost of TSA PreCheck. I don't know why you would opt for the latter if both are free. Remember, Global Entry includes all of the benefits of TSA PreCheck and adds a speedier way through US customs and immigration. Some cards, however, offer only an $85 credit, which would leave you with a $15 balance to cover the cost of Global Entry.
The following credit cards include up to a $100 credit at least every five years to cover a five-year membership to TSA PreCheck or Global Entry:
In addition to credit cards, there are a handful of traveler loyalty programs that let you trade points or miles for a free membership to TSA PreCheck.
How to get Clear for free
There are fewer ways to get a free or discounted Clear membership, but they do exist. Delta and United frequent flyers as well as Hertz members can get a deal on Clear.
For Delta flyers, Clear is free for Diamond Medallion members, $109 a year for Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion members, and $119 a year for General SkyMiles members.
On United, Clear free for Premier 1K members, $109 a year for United credit cardmembers in the US and Platinum, Gold and Silver Premier members. And it's $119 a year for MileagePlus members.
Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members can get Clear for a discounted rate of $129 a year -- a savings of $50.

Citi Prestige® Card Overview
The Citi Prestige® Card is a premium travel credit card offering select luxury travel perks for frequent flyers. While its $495 annual fee is not for the fainthearted, regular travelers can make their money back easily by taking advantage of Citi Prestige benefits like a complimentary fourth-night hotel stay and an annual $250 travel credit. The card has a generous rewards rate too, so you can accelerate your ThankYou points balance and get more for your spending.
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Pros
- 5X points on air travel and restaurant purchases; 3x points on hotels and cruise line purchases; 1X point on all other purchases
- Get the fourth night free when booking four consecutive nights or more at any hotel through Citi ThankYou.
- $250 annual travel credit, which also includes supermarket and restaurant purchases through December 2021
- up $100 application fee credit for Global Entry to TSA PreCheck every five years
- Priority Pass Select VIP airport lounge access
- Pairs well with other no annual fee Citi rewards cards
Cons
- $495 annual fee

Citi Prestige current welcome offer
The Citi Prestige comes with a respectable 50,000 ThankYou points if you spend at least $4,000 in the first three months. This sign-up bonus is redeemable for $500 in travel if you book through the ThankYou Travel center—effectively offsetting your entire annual fee in the first year.
While this is a solid bonus, Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a similar welcome offer for qualifying cardholders. But 50,000 Chase points (after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening) is worth $750 in travel—or 50 percent more—if redeemed for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
Rewards
The Citi Prestige earns Citi ThankYou points, which provide a solid 1:1 value toward travel through Citi. Luckily, there is a good variety of redemption options, but it’s hard to squeeze extra value out of your points without utilizing Citi travel transfer partners. Waiting till the right moment is no problem, though, since your points won’t expire as long as your account stays open. However, points that are shared with another account expire in 90 days and purchased points must be used within a year.
Earning rewards
Unless you bank with Citi, the only way to earn substantial rewards is through spending with your credit card. Your biggest bonus category earns 5X points on air travel and at restaurants (including cafes, bars, lounges and fast-food restaurants—which isn’t always the case), but you’ll also rake in 3X points at hotels and on cruise lines. Naturally, you’ll also earn 1X points on all other purchases.
If you plan to maximize your rewards for travel, this 5X rewards rate makes the Citi Prestige one of the best cards for restaurants and airlines.
Redeeming rewards
Rewards redemption is where Citi Prestige comes into its own. You can use points to cover recent travel purchases (such as flights, hotels and car rentals) or eligible online bills, redeem them for a gift card, pay for purchases at participating retailers, receive them as cash back, donate them to charity or even share them with another person who has a ThankYou account. You may also be able to use points for payments up to $1,000 toward qualifying Citi credit lines, like a mortgage or student loan.
What’s particularly special about the Citi Prestige is that points earned on this card (and the Citi Premier® Card) can be transferred to a partner airline loyalty program at a transfer ratio of 1:1. Points transfer at this ratio is not available with other no annual fee Citi credit cards.
How much are points worth?
Unlike other reward programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards, you can’t redeem your ThankYou points for a higher value toward travel. The best value you can get from your points through Citi is 1 cent apiece toward booking travel, redeeming for gift cards or contributing to your Citi home mortgage or student loan balance.
Other redemption options typically bring less than a 1:1 value, but your best opportunity to wring more value from your points is to transfer them to a partner Citi travel loyalty program. According to The Points Guy’s point and mile valuations, ThankYou points can be worth up around 1.7 cents with the right transfer partner.
Benefits
Outside the pack-in World Elite Mastercard benefits, the Citi Prestige carries the best additional features of any Citi card. If you travel regularly, these perks will elevate your travel experience and more than justify the hefty annual fee.
Complimentary hotel night
The Citi Prestige’s complimentary fourth-night hotel stay offer is by far the most popular benefit. Simply book a hotel of your choice through Citi’s online portal for four consecutive nights and you’ll only have to pay for three (excluding taxes and fees). What’s more, you can claim this benefit up to two times per calendar year.
Up to $250 annual travel credit
Every year, you’ll automatically receive up to $250 in statement credits toward eligible purchases that fall within the “travel purchases” category. Citi automatically identifies each of these purchases on your card and posts a credit one to two billing cycles later. Qualifying personal travel expenses include purchases from:
- Airlines
- Hotels
- Travel agencies, travel aggregators and tour operators
- Commuter transportation, including commuter railways, subways and bus lines
- Taxis, car services and limousines
- Bridge and road tolls
- Paid parking lots and garages
- Cruise lines
- Ferries
No worries if you’re hesitant to travel at the moment, your travel credit will also cover supermarket and restaurant purchases through December 2021.
Other travel perks
- Priority Pass Select airport lounge access. You and up to two guests can access hundreds of Priority Pass Select VIP lounges worldwide.
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit. Get up to $100 back in fee credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck applications every five years.
- Concierge service. Cardholders are entitled to Citi’s Concierge service, which gives you access to a personal assistant who can help with travel planning, shopping, restaurant reservations and more.
Annual Citigold banking relationship bonus credits
This valuable perk is a bit under-the-radar but can make a difference in offsetting your annual fee each year. By being a Citi Prestige cardmember with a qualifying Citigold wealth management account, you can earn a $145 statement credit within three billing cycles of your assessed $495 annual fee being charged to your card. If you happen to have one or more authorized users, you’ll also receive a $25 statement credit for each $75 authorized user fee on your account.
Rates and Fees
The Citi Prestige has an annual fee of $495 and a further $75 for an additional authorized user, but there are no foreign transaction fees. Late payment triggers a fee of up to $40, and a penalty APR of 29.99 percent variable may apply.
In line with other travel rewards credit cards, there are no introductory APR periods with the Citi Prestige. However, if you need to transfer your balance with Citi, the balance transfer fee is either $5 or 3 percent of the transfer amount (whichever is greater). Both your purchases and balance transfers will be subject to the ongoing 16.99 percent to 23.99 percent variable APR, which is on par with other elite travel cards.
How the Citi Prestige Credit compares to other premium travel credit cards
The Citi Prestige’s main rivals are the Chase Sapphire Reserve and The Platinum Card® from American Express. Both of these cards are loaded with more travel benefits, especially travel and purchase protections but have a higher annual fees. Chase Sapphire Reserve offers a seemingly lower 3X rate on travel and dining (after earning your $300 travel credit), but you’ll get a stronger $300 annual travel credit (which covers gas station and grocery purchases through Dec. 31, 2021) and 50 percent more value when redeeming points for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
The Platinum Card, on the other hand, offers an “equivalent” 5X points for flights and prepaid hotel purchases booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel, plus a rich portfolio of extra benefits. The Platinum Card stands alongside the Sapphire Reserve as one of the best credit cards for travel insurance and delivers perks like complimentary Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors elite gold status, annual credits for merchants like Uber and Saks Fifth Avenue and top-tier airport lounge access worldwide.
Citi’s Prestige Card may have a lower annual fee and wider category coverage, but it could be hard to stack up to these rivals’ perks and higher potential point value (The Points Guy’s latest point valuation rates both Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Amex Membership Rewards points at 2 cents apiece). However, the Citi Prestige may be the best choice hands down if you already bank with Citi or are considering other Citi rewards cards. The regular ThankYou points from eligible Citi banking activity and the partial annual fee credits from Citigold can pad out your rewards balance. Citi’s no annual fee rewards cards also compliment the Prestige card incredibly well, perhaps making the most cost-effective issuer card combinations to maximize rewards.

How the Modi government wrecked India’s small businesses
The last five years appear to us as a series of 100-meter sprints for India’s small businesses and informal workers, one at a time. Be it for demonetisation, or Goods and Services Tax (GST) or the lockdown, each time the citizens are expected to run and endure what is called momentary hardships, purportedly to achieve what is said to be a “noble goal.”
At times it is “ache din” (good days), “Digital India”, “surgical strike on black money”, “15 lakh rupees ($20,015.13) to every citizen”, “Make in India”, “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”, “five trillion economy”—a carrot that changes every once in a while. Each one is packaged with the correct mix of demagoguery, branding, and high decibels in the media newsrooms that have rendered us into a country that lives in short bursts and even shorter memories.
The manufactured euphoria is used as a smokescreen that shrouds the larger picture—a marathon race to the finish. A race that was flagged off with the slogan of “sabka saath sabka vikas,” but which over the years has been designed to decimate the small entrepreneurs and the informal sector in favour of big capital.
First blood: Demonetisation
One of the first hurdles that were erected on the tracks of the small business was demonetisation. The banning of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes that overnight rendered 86% of India’s currency null and void, five years back, is one of the many moves that perfectly spotlights this game plan of the current regime. It had everything. The surprise announcement at 8pm on Nov. 7, 2016, that shocked and awed the country.

The announcement did not talk about the preparation for its implementation but demanded to rise above our individual hardships, endure the pain for just 50 days to rid the country of the evils of black money, terrorism, and even cash. That was enough for the ever-faithful media to peddle stories of a daring “surgical strike” on black money, of new Rs2,000 notes having tracking chips, and so on. And anyone who questioned was branded an anti-national coming in the way of the “noble goal.”
Behind the charade of the “surgical strike” on black money what is carefully hidden is the global war on cash that has been pushed by the big capital through the Better than Cash Alliance funded by United States Agency for International Development, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Citi Foundation, Ford Foundation, Mastercard, Omidyar Network and Visa Inc. An alliance that India joined exactly a year before demonetisation.
“The stated intention of the cashless push,” as explained by Tony Joseph, “is to make it impossible for the informal sector to survive as it does today—even though it employs more than 70% of India’s labour.” While proponents of a cashless economy spoke of the necessity of the “creative destruction” of the informal sector, he warns of the immense job loss and uncertainty that any such forced digitisation would entail for a country like India. This is precisely what we saw unfold since demonetisation.
For a cash-intensive unorganised sector, demonetisation came as a bolt from the blue. With a dearth of working capital, the micro and small enterprises were in no position to pay and lakhs of workers abandoned small towns and cities to return to their villages. Bihar’s finance minister in December 2016 said 95% of migrants had returned home because their employers had no money to pay their salaries.
In a December 2016 study, the All India Manufacturers’ Organisation reported 40% and 32% job losses in the age groups of 40 years to 55 years and 22 years to 30 years respectively during the first 50 days of demonetisation. By the end of the year, it was clear that the smaller the units, the more susceptible they were.
So, small-scale traders, shops and micro industries witnessed 60% job losses and suffered a 47% dip in revenue while large-scale industries suffered only 2% job losses and a 3% revenue dip during the same period.
Structural blow: GST
The unorganised sector had hardly found their footing back in the race when yet another hurdle was erected on their track, this time in the name of Goods and Services Tax. It once again threw the economy on a tailspin.

Yet again, it was said that the strains would be short-lived. We were once again asked to endure for the cause of formalisation which it was said would in the long run take the country to newer heights. There is a good reason in fact to believe that the GST was a bigger and more structural blow to the unorganised and small entrepreneurs than even the shockwave of demonetisation.
The economics of logistics of the GST framework was completely skewed against the survival of the small players and in terms of market share helped in augmenting the footprint of the larger companies and big organised retail brands.
As has been pointed out by various economists, be it the next-door kirana shops or the local service providers, their survival depends largely on non-compliance as it is only by this means that they are able to offer competitive prices vis-a-vis the bigger players.
To subject them to official rates and to burden them with the cost of compliance was to basically translate into throwing at least most of them out of the race. And that is precisely what happened. We heard the Executive Chairman of Prestige Group saying “Thanks to GST, the unorganised competition is reducing. There are three or four organised players.” Rest could not keep up.
“That is why I called GST, Ground Scorching Tax—it is at the ground level that the economy is getting damaged,” said economist and author Arun Kumar in an interview.
Fatal fall: Lockdown
A report by Transunion Cibil and Sidbi said that by the end of 2019, micro, small and medium enterprises with exposures from Rs10 lakh to Rs10 crore had recovered to pre-demonetisation levels, but the segment with exposure of less than Rs10 lakh was still far from recovery.

The unorganised sector was desperately trying to get back on its feet when in 2020 yet another hurdle was put on their tracks. This time even a deadlier one that knocked them down—the covid-19 lockdown. The most stringent state-imposed lockdown ever recorded in human history was declared with a four-hour head start bringing the country to a standstill and a silent migration in motion.
The propaganda machinery was yet again unleashed to sing the song of endurance for just a few weeks for the country to emerge strongly in the war against the virus, a war that we evidently failed in by the time of the second wave.
The lockdown completely disrupted the economy, the heaviest price being paid yet again by the unorganised sector that was already crippled by the blows of demonetisation and GST. The effect was particularly skewed against women in the labour force.
As per a study (pdf), while only 19% of women remained employed, 47% had not returned to work till the end of 2020. Among them, domestic workers and sex workers (who are predominantly women) were among the worst affected. Though invisibilised in official data, it was widely reported how women lost their small savings owing to demonetisation and even had to face domestic violence, which further intensified during the lockdown.
Unorganised workers impacted
As to the fate of the unorganised sector at large, the All India Manufacturers’ Organisation in association with nine other industry associations in a study of over 42,000 self-employed and micro-entrepreneurs, found that a third of them were on the verge of closing down (pdf) and more than 70% were forced to fire workers.
A detailed survey of 400 firms conducted (pdf) in mid-2020 found that microenterprises lost 20% of annual sales, while medium and large enterprises lost about 11%. The study estimated that microenterprises could retain only 37% of their workers, while the number for large enterprises was 57%. This was before the second wave came to our shores.
The account of Med Khan, a knife sharpener in Mumbai is moving. For him, the pandemic was an accelerator of something that was already in motion. “Most people buy stainless steel knives from Amazon and do not need my service,” he said.
Shaktiman Ghosh, the General Secretary of the National Hawkers Federation, in an interview said that during the nationwide lockdown only 10% of hawkers selling fruits, vegetables and groceries were able to stay operational. More than 80% of hawkers were not able to even open their makeshift shops. It was devastating for them as about 60% of hawkers, he said, are hand to mouth depending on their daily earnings to survive.
It has been stiffly contested, and also belied by the horrors of the second wave, as to whether such a stringent lockdown was the way to handle the pandemic. But one thing is certain, it further solidified the footing of big digitised retail on the already floundering small players, hawkers, and itinerant service providers. Grofers, for instance, claims that amongst the new users in 2020, 64% were first-time online grocery shoppers, while for 20% it was their first interface with e-commerce. Flipkart too boasts of a new user growth of close to 50% right after the lockdown and the bulk of them were in fact from the so far under-tapped tier-3 cities making the lockdown stand out as an inflexion point for online retail.
Cumulatively seen, the demonetisation, the GST, or the lockdown are in fact not short sprints—but a continuum—a five-year-long marathon—that has turned into a death trap for small businesses employing the bulk of the informal workforce. They have either been bought over or their market share has been steadily eroded by big business.
Recent National Crime Records Bureau data reveal that the pandemic year of 2020 saw more suicides among business people in India than even farmers. Among those who took the noose were mostly vendors (36%) and tradesmen (37%). Hate, bigotry and carefully camouflaged promises have either kept us distracted from these stark realities or have turned us into cheerleaders for a misplaced sense of pride. How long before we put an end to this death race?
