NEW: Core Data Recalibrator

Modern versions of Windows depend on a central communication system that allows software and hardware to exchange critical information before making decisions. Because of its complexity, it is prone to various levels of corruption over time—which can result in a variety of problems.

Even the smallest amount of corruption in Windows communication infrastructure can produce false alarms, misdirected files, incorrect reports, confused software, unreliable hardware, and generally unpredictable computer behavior.

Core Data Recalibrator, a unique technology premiering in System Mechanic 12, automatically corrects Windows information corruption. It accurately detects and automatically repairs these problems before they can destabilize a system, keeping Windows and all of your software, apps, and connected devices working in unison so they never miss a beat and your PC is always ready for action.

NEW: Stability Guard

It only takes one problem to stop a PC in its tracks, regardless of how new or powerful it may be. The effects of a single rogue app can range from annoying errors and random glitches to lost work and even an unusable system.

Stability Guard proactively intercepts threats to system stability by automatically watching for rogue programs and unauthorized configuration changes that reduce system stability. It uses complex algorithms to track and correlate the root causes of freezes, hangs, crashes, errors, and restarts.

It also provides a revolutionary at-a-glance view of PC reliability over time, as well as the specific programs and system changes that affect it. Buggy programs, erratic apps and plug-ins, internal errors, system incompatibilities, and hundreds of other elusive issues are now more easily resolved so your PC operates at peak performance and reliability when you need it most.

Enhanced: CRUDD Remover

Commonly Redundant or Unnecessary Decelerators and Destabilizers (CRUDD) Remover™ helps identify and eliminate duplicate programs that overload your system.

In addition to all the programs you install yourself, there’s the software that came with your PC that you may never use, as well as any number of programs that may have installed themselves on your computer without your knowledge.

Now greatly enhanced to detect even more unwanted programs, CRUDD Remover’s™ expert intelligence takes the hassle and guesswork out of finding, classifying, and presenting them all, so you can choose to remove unnecessary software bloat.

Designed for Windows 8.1

Every new operating system presents its own optimization challenges and Windows 8.1 is no exception. New System Mechanic 12 has been specifically engineered to expand on the performance improvements in Windows 8.1 while at the same time eliminating issues it shares with earlier Windows versions all the way from Windows XP and Vista to Windows 7

Speed up your PC with Iolo System Mechanic

Iolo System Mechanic is an extensive suite of tools for tweaking and optimising your PC. It Includes numerous features to help you protect your online security, clear out unneeded files and speed up your PC.

Our focus here is the Startup Optimizer. This lets you stop unwanted programs from automatically launching along with Windows, and running in the background all the time. Without them, your computer will start up more quickly, with the maximum possible memory and CPU resources available, so your applications can run faster and more smoothly.

Spring-clean your PC with Iolo System Mechanic Pro – Get a huge 70% off if you use the coupon code EXPERTREVIEWS

Finding the Startup Optimizer

When you first open System Mechanic, you’ll be presented with the main Dashboard, and invited to analyse your PC for issues. You can do this to get an overview of the state of your system, and optionally correct any errors.

To jump to the specific tool we’re interested in, click Toolbox in the left-hand pane, then select Speed Up to see System Mechanic’s various optimisation tools. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and you’ll find “Startup Optimizer”. Click to open it.

The main view

System Mechanic will take a few seconds to analyse your startup items, and then present you with a list of processes that are set to launch automatically on your system. You might be surprised how long this list is: many legitimate applications (such as Adobe Acrobat and Apple iTunes) silently install little “helper apps” on your PC alongside the main program. These can help the software to launch more quickly when you need it, and provide conveniences such as system tray icons – but they can also get in the way.

As you look down the list, you’ll probably see that several items have little “thumbs-up” and “thumbs-down” logos to show what proportion of System Mechanic users have chosen to keep or disable individual items.

You’ll also see a column detailing each item’s “Importance”: this is Iolo’s assessment of how necessary each item is. Most or all of your items will probably say “User Choice”, which means your PC and applications will be fine if you choose to disable them: it’s up to you whether or not to allow them to run.

For a detailed description of where each item came from, and what it does, click the Down arrow at the far right of the System Mechanic window. This will give you a detailed description, along with an estimate of how much impact the item has on Windows performance.

To keep or not to keep?

For each startup item, System Mechanic offers a three-way control: you can leave it enabled, turn it off, or launch it after a delay (so it doesn’t slow down Windows while it’s starting up). This last option actually only works for Windows Services, so it probably won’t apply to most of the items in this list.

Obviously you won’t see any benefit if you leave everything turned on. But, understandably, you may be wary of turning things off willy-nilly. Our advice is not to worry: start by turning everything off unless you’re 100% sure you need it. This will give you the maximum boost in boot time and available resources. And don’t worry about those “thumbs-up” indicators: no-one knows better than you which programs you want running on your computer, and which you don’t.

And remember: you can always come back into the Startup Optimizer and turn individual items back on again if you decide you wanted them running after all.

Advanced settings

If you want to delve more deeply into your startup processes, the grey bar along the top of the Startup Optimizer lets you switch from viewing “Potentially unwanted items” to “All items”. Click the latter option and you’ll see a much longer list, including a great many built-in Windows components.

You’ll see that a few of these are detailed as “Necessary” – obviously, it’s a good idea not to touch these. But the majority of them will be shown as “System”, which means they handle specific features within Windows.

Individually these have very little impact on your PC’s performance. But if you really want to make your system as lean as possible, quite a few of them can be safely disabled, so long as you don’t want to use the features associated with them. For example, if you’re using a conventional desktop PC with no touchscreen, you can feel free to disable the “Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel” service.

Spring-clean your PC with Iolo System Mechanic Pro – Get a huge 70% off if you use the coupon code EXPERTREVIEWS

With dozens of services to browse through, we can’t go into every one here: if you’re interested, a quick web search will reveal plenty of websites suggesting services you might want to turn off. Proceed with caution, though. Make a note of everything you’ve disabled, so you can easily turn it back on should you run into unexpected behaviour.

iolo System Mechanic 2021 experience report & test

There are now a few PC tuning software on the market. However, not all programs work properly and reliably. Furthermore, it is important to find out before installation which special features the cleaning program has in store for its users.

We have the program to optimize the system iolo System Mechanic viewed more closely. It is not only about the iolo System Mechanic free version in detail, but also about the paid extension iolo System Mechanic 17Pro. In our test we report on the special features, costs and the scope of this tuning software.

Content

iolo System Mechanic Test: The scope of services in a fast run

The operators of the PC tuning software promise their customers outstanding iolo System Mechanic experiences. The range of services includes the following areas:

  • The automatic repair and acceleration of the computer
  • Patented performance technology from iolo
  • Restoring maximum speed, performance and stability
  • The instant download
  • Support of the software of different operating systems, including Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7 (XP / Vista up to v16.0.0.10)
  • Fixed bugs, crashes, and more
  • Whole Home License for use on all home computers
  • System Mechanic is available in German

The system optimization offers its users some features that the Improve computer performance promise in no time.

The iolo System Mechanic experience

The cleaning software supports users in maintaining their Microsoft Windows based computers. Iolo System Mechanic uses ActiveCare technology to sustainably accelerate the PC.

  • Conveniently, ActiveCare runs entirely secretly in the background, so that the user is not disturbed. When the user is absent, ActiveCare takes care of the diagnosis, coordination, cleaning and repair in the background. In doing so, the software also focuses on some system tests to identify the basic problems with the computer.
  • As it tests the system, System Mechanic looks for updates to critical device drivers and is dedicated to compressing registers.
  • It also deals with the elimination of memory leaks, the elimination of random crashes and reboots, and the revitalization of non-bootable systems.
  • The PC tuning software also fixes security weaknesses and repairs damage to the hard drive. Then the software will scan and replace outdated drivers and repair broken Internet connections.
  • System chaos and junk files also have a hard time. The software comes with some cleaning tools that locate and delete these mostly well-hidden files.

Especially the paid versions go deep. These remove bloatware that is slowing down your PC. Iolo System Mechanic uses a tool called Startup Optimizer, which optimizes the startup speed. Programs that delay the start are thrown out and programs are determined that should better be deactivated in order to boost the system to maximum performance.

Now to iolo System Mechanic

iolo System Mechanic and the protection of privacy

The Privacy protection is becoming more and more important in the age of digitization. Accordingly, iolo System Mechanic has a number of features that are precisely tailored to protect privacy.

For example, iolo System Mechanic does not simply delete files, but actually shreds them with the Privacy Cleaner Tool. This is how the software ensures complete removal of all deleted data. Also useful for removing cache, online chats, web toolbars or the browser history.

The careful deletion of these no longer needed files has a practical side effect: The speed of the computer is increased to the maximum. To increase this effect, iolo System Mechanic comes with the NetBooster tool. This optimizes all aspects of the internet connection.

The NetBooster automatically finds the fastest possible DNS server and adjusts the Windows Internet settings accordingly. This then increases the download speed. NetBooster performs these points on its own, but if you want to help, you can also start these features manually.

What can the paid versions do that the free version can't?

iolo System Mechanic is available in a free version. However, this royalty-free software only offers the most basic features. To make the computer more powerful and faster in the long term, this is by no means sufficient. Accordingly, the company offers three versions for a fee behind the PC tuning software:

  1. iolo System Mechanic: Optimizing your computer, repairing problems, defragmenting your system, preventing malware, and keeping it performing at its best
  2. iolo System Mechanic Professional: AntiWir Vervirus software System Shield, a recovery function for lost files and the shredder DriveScrubber
  3. iolo System Mechanic Ultimate Defense: Privacy Guardian, a tool for protecting online identity, ByePass Password manager, and Malware Killer, an extra strong protection against malware.

In terms of price, all three versions are in the double-digit range. On the website of the operator itself, customers receive discounts:

  • The version iolo System Mechanic is available for $ 24,97 instead of $ 49,95.
  • For iolo System Mechanic Professional Instead of US $ 69,95, the cost is only US $ 34,97.
  • Instead of $ 79,95, customers pay for iolo System Mechanic Ultimate Defense on the platform just $ 31,98.

The conclusion to iolo System Mechanic

We were able to take a closer look at the different versions of iolo System Mechanic in our iolo System Mechanic test. What is clear is that the free version is actually iolo System Mechanic free only to "get a taste" suitable.

If you really want reliable all-round protection and PC optimization, you should choose either the iolo System Mechanic Professional or the iolo System Mechanic Ultimate Defense version.

Because with these two chargeable cleaners, customers get some interesting and important features, when it comes to improving computer performance.

  • In terms of price, iolo System Mechanic moves with all commercially available tuning software in the lower two-digit range. All packages are suitable for both optimization and cleaning of the computer.
  • Furthermore, the iolo System Mechanic Download works in no time and the operation of the program works thanks to intuitive usability also very easy for beginners.
  • Another advantage is that iolo System Mechanic in German language is available.

TODAY'S BEST DEALS

One worthwhile solution to a slow PC is to use a system utilities program like Iolo System Mechanic. A good utility will clear junk from your OS, boost system speed, and perform other crucial tasks in the background. System Mechanic made it on to our list of best system utilities, and in this review we'll take a more in-depth look at the program.

Plans and pricing

The trial version of System Mechanic offers full features for a month, and there is also a free version that allows you to use a limited set of features indefinitely—basic system repairs, cleanup, and a speed boost. Sometimes, there are also reduced-price deals to be had on Iolo’s website, but these seem to vary.

The basic System Mechanic plan is $14.98 (normally $39.96) per year. This includes system optimization, repairing and preventing system errors, cleaning junk, fixing dangerous settings to prevent hacking attacks, and maintaining your PC’s speed and performance.

The System Mechanic Pro plan is $20.98 (normally $55.96) per year, adding extra features like the System Shield for antivirus/malware protection, Search and Recover to recover accidentally deleted data, and the Drive Scrubber, which erases data securely.

System Mechanic’s Ultimate Defense plan is $23.98 (normally $63.96) per year. Added benefits include Privacy Guardian to protect privacy online and ByePass to manage passwords securely, as well as the Malware Killer.

Features

System Mechanic is aimed at personal and business users who want to keep their PC running smoothly. With that in mind, the features are broken down into easily-understandable categories within the Toolbox—Clean, Speed Up, Protect, Recover, and Manage. We’ll look at Protect later as a separate security category.

This tool cleans your system of over 50 kinds of unnecessary junk. There are also other cleaning options and an Advanced Uninstaller.

According to the scan we performed, System Mechanic found 261 junk files, and 28 registry issues. The scan itself was very fast, and fixing the issues was a simple case of pressing the Clean Selected button.

This module features a series of tools designed to speed up your PC and your internet.

The Memory Mechanic gained me nearly an extra 2GB of memory in less than 20 seconds.

Recover is where you will find the tools to fix and troubleshoot issues with your PC, including a System Restore option.

Here you can customize advanced Windows settings, but unless you know exactly what you’re doing, it might be best to avoid changing anything.

There are a variety of useful tools in the Protect module. System Mechanic will detect and remove deceptive and unwanted programs, fix Windows security items, and provide a desktop “file incinerator” to obliterate all traces of your files.

Interface and in use

The user interface is clear, uncluttered, and easy to navigate using the icons. However, it’s a bit annoying that one of the constant recommendations is to upgrade to System Mechanic Ultimate Defense—this also appears on the paid-for version of the software.

Downloading the trial version from Iolo’s website was fast, and installation only took a few minutes. One unexpected feature of the installation was a popup asking if I wanted to download and use Opera as my default internet browser as an optional offer from Iolo.

Support

If you click the question mark in the menu bar, you’re taken to Iolo’s program support page. There you’ll find everything you need to know (in a variety of languages) about System Mechanic.

The support page offers phone and email support. You have the option of free basic support for one PC, or Premium Support, which costs a whopping $199.95 per year or 12 monthly installments of $14.95. For this, you get unlimited 24x7 troubleshooting (including remote support) for several PCs. This option is probably better value for those with multiple PCs.

Live chat is also available, with a response time of under 20 seconds when we tried it.

The competition

If you are interested in alternative utilities, then CleanMyPC provides the malware protection that System Mechanic lacks, and SlimCleaner is very inexpensive, especially for users of multiple PCs.

CleanMyPC is effective at cleaning and optimizing PCs, but lacks a backup and restore tool, which System Mechanic has. However, it does offer malware protection. Price-wise, CleanMyPC works out cheaper for single PCs, with a one-off lifetime payment of $39.95, though this excludes the Techradar discount offer.

Meanwhile, SlimCleaner offers a small set of basic cleaning and optimizing tools, but they do the job. There’s no backup and restore tool, though. There is a one-year plan for one computer that costs $19.97, and you can buy a lifetime plan for five computers for $59.97, good for those on a budget.

Final verdict

System Mechanic is a great, easy-to-use system utility. The interface is slick and uncluttered, and the scans are fast. The downsides are the lack of virus/malware protection on the basic System Mechanic version, the single yearly payment option available for each plan, and the cost of premium support.

However, the app will suit anyone who wants to keep their PC running fast and junk-free, and you don’t need technical expertise to install and use it.
