  4. Type the security code from the back of your card and complete the additional fields.

To add a card on Apple Watch, you must first pair your Watch with a supported iPhone running on iOS 8.2 or later using the Apple Watch app. Once paired, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, select "Wallet & Apple Pay" and then tap "Add Debit or Credit Card." Please note that the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s only enable payments for the Apple Watch. Payments cannot be made with the iPhone 5, 5c or 5s alone.

To add a card on your iPad, go to Settings and choose "Wallet & Apple Pay." Select "Add Debit or Credit Card," then follow the on-screen instructions.

Upon successfully verifying certain information related to the debit card, your account will be approved and you may begin using Apple Pay.

To activate your credit card in the Digital Wallet, enter your credit card details. You will then receive a one-time passcode by text or email. Upon successfully entering the one-time passcode, you may begin using Apple Pay.

Q. Can I add my cards to multiple devices?

A. Yes. You can add your cards to multiple devices. Please note that your cards must be added to each device and complete the card verification process separately.

Q. Where can I use Apple Pay?

A. You can use Apple Pay at more than 220,000 stores and restaurants where Visa contactless payments are accepted.  Just look for the Apple Pay symbol at checkout.  You can also use Apple Pay in participating merchant apps with supported devices. Look for the “Buy with Apple Pay” or “Apple Pay” button at checkout within the merchant apps.

Q. How do I pay using my cards on the Apple Watch?

A. Once you’ve added your debit or credit card, paying in stores is simple. Double click the side button and hold the face of your Apple Watch to the merchant’s card reader. A slight vibration and a tone will confirm your payment information has been sent.

Q. How do I make my American Bank debit or credit card the default card in Apple Pay?

A. Your default card in Apple Pay is the first card you added. If you would like to change your default card, open settings on your phone, go to “Wallet & Apple Pay”, select “Default Card” and put the check mark next to the American Bank debit or credit card.

On anApple Watch, open the Apple Watch app and tap “Default Card”, and then tap the debit or credit card you would like to select as your default card.

Q. How safe and secure are payments made through Apple Pay?

A. Apple Pay is secure. Your card numbers are not stored in the phone nor used to make payments. Instead of using your card number when you add your card, a unique number is assigned. And your cards in Apple Pay are protected by Touch ID™and/or your device pass code. Since you don’t have to show your debit and credit cards, your private account information is protected.

When you make payments with Apple Pay and your debit and credit cards:

  • Your full card number is not shown to the merchant. When you add your cards to Apple Pay, your cards are assigned a unique device account number which is different than your debit and credit card numbers. You can always find this device account number and the last four digits of your card numbers in the Wallet & Apple Pay section under your device’s Settings. When you make a purchase through Apple Pay you will see the last four digits of your device account number printed on the receipt.

Q. What is a Device Account Number and how is it different from my American Bank debit and credit card number?

A. For your security, when you add your card to Apple Pay, a Device Account Number is created for each card on that device. It is separate and unique to your device and different from your card account number. Your Device Account Number is used to make purchases with your card using Apple Pay. If you add the card to multiple devices, each device will have a separate Device Account Number.

Q. Does Apple Pay show my American Bank debit and credit card transactions?

A. Apple Pay displays recent debit and credit card purchases you made within the Wallet on your iPhone, but it won't display all your purchase details. You can obtain all of your debit and credit card transactions by signing into AmericanBank Online or our Mobile Banking App and select the appropriate account.

Q. How will Apple Pay purchases appear on my monthly statement?

A. You will see all Apple Pay purchases made with your American Bank debit and credit cards listed on your statement the same way as charges made with your physical cards.

Q. Why is my transaction amount sometimes reported differently in Apple Pay?

A. Occasionally only initial authorization amounts will be passed to Apple Pay, which might be different from the final transaction amount. As a result, you might see different transaction amounts from locations such as restaurants, gas service stations, hotels, and car rental companies. Always refer to your account statement for final transaction details.

Q. How do I return an item I bought using Apple Pay in a store?

A. The cashier can use the Device Account Number to find the purchase and process the return, just like they would with a traditional card payment. To see the last four digits of the Device Account Number, tap the card and tap ⓘ.

If the cashier needs your card details to process the return, you can follow the same steps for making a payment. Hold the Apple Pay device you used to make the payment near the reader, select the card you used to make the original payment, and authorize the return.

Q. Do you charge any fees to use Apple Pay?

A. No, we do not charge fees to use Apple Pay. However, Apple Pay does require an active data plan in order to work. Your data plan may apply additional message and data charges.

Q. What is a virtual card?

A. Virtual cards are the digital form of your eligible physical debit and credit cards. When you add your physical card to Apple Pay, it is stored as a virtual card. It will have a unique virtual card number that is only associated with Apple Pay.

Q. What are contactless payments?

A. A contactless payment is a transaction using chip-based technology that does not require a physical connection between the payment device (a card or mobile device) and the physical merchant terminal.

Q. What should I do if my Apple device is lost or stolen?

A. If you believe your device or Apple Pay card information has been lost, stolen or compromised in any way, call us immediately at the number on the back of your card. If you locate your device after your card was disabled by us, you will need to add your card back to Apple Pay. For iPhone or iPad, you can go to the Find My iPhone app to temporarily suspend or permanently remove the ability to make payment transactions from your device, even if your device is offline. If you suspend your card(s) using Find My iPhone, and putting it in Lost Mode, you can reactivate your card(s) simply by unlocking your device and entering your Apple ID "Passcode" when prompted. For any supported Apple device, you can always go to iCloud.com/settings, choose the applicable device and delete your card(s).

Your physical debit and credit cards can continue to be used for purchases, even if you lose your device. Your original terms and conditions still apply.

Q. What if I lose my American Bank debit or credit card?

A. Please call us immediately. We will close your card so that no more purchases can be made. Please also mention that you are an Apple Pay customer and remove the lost or stolen card from Apple Pay using the “Remove card” option.  Once you receive your replacement card, it will need to be added to Apple Pay before purchases can be made. You will need to remove the old card from the Wallet App, and then add your new replacement card to the Wallet. You will also need to complete the card verification process to enable the card for use with Apple Pay.

Q. How do I remove a card from Apple Pay?

A. You can quickly delete a payment card from Apple Pay. Deleting a card will only remove the payment information, including the digital card number (token) from the device. Your physical card will remain active. To remove a card from Apple Pay, simply select the card in Wallet or in the Apple Watch app and click on the ⓘ icon in the bottom corner to view the back of the card. Scroll to the bottom to find the ‘remove card’ option. After deleting, you can re-add this card to Apple Pay at any time.

Q. If I erase my iPhone, does that cancel my physical cards or can I continue to use them?

A. Erasing the information on your iPhone will have no effect on your physical cards. You can continue to use your cards as you normally would. Erasing your iPhone will delete the virtual cards from Apple Pay and they can no longer be used. You can add your debit and credit cards back into Apple Pay at any time.

Q. Where can I learn more about Apple Pay?

A. For more information about Apple Pay, please visit the Apple Pay website.

How Do Cardless ATMs Work?

It’s easier than ever to pay for things electronically, eliminating the need to handle cash. You can use your phone’s mobile wallet as a replacement for payment cards, and you can even use your phone for cash withdrawals at an ATM.

You probably take your mobile device everywhere you go, and that might include short trips when you leave home without a debit card. Learn how cardless ATMs work so you can decide how to make your next withdrawal.

Key Takeaways

  • Cardless ATMs allow you to withdraw cash without an ATM card
  • Major banks like Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo offer cardless ATMs.
  • Near-field communication (NFC), QR codes, and biometrics are common technologies used for cardless ATMs.

What Is a Cardless ATM?

Cardless ATMs are machines where you can withdraw cash without inserting a traditional ATM card into the machine. With this technology, your experience at the ATM may be safer and faster. You can complete the same banking tasks as you would with a card, including cash withdrawals, balance inquiries, and more.

Chase Bank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and other major banks offer the option of accessing an ATM with your bank’s app. But this isn’t just for customers of big banks—your local credit union or regional bank likely offers cardless ATM withdrawals, too.

How Cardless ATMs Work

To use a cardless ATM, you’ll provide card information stored in your phone’s mobile wallet. For example, you might use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. Alternatively, you might need to install your bank or credit union’s mobile app for cardless ATM transactions.

You’ll verify your identity and authorize the transaction on your mobile device, and your device communicates with the ATM with the help of a QR code or radio waves.

Near-Field Communication (NFC)

NFC is a way for devices to communicate in close proximity using radio waves that travel just four inches or so, which requires the devices to be nearby. That’s why your bank might instruct you to “tap” your phone on a specific location when using your ATM.

When you tap your phone, it sends information about your card to the ATM. Then, you enter your PIN or use additional methods to authorize the transaction.

Wells Fargo’s debit cards have NFC built into them, so you can tap your card at an ATM with NFC, too.

QR and Other Verification Codes

Cardless transactions may require you to verify your identity with more than just an NFC device or card. In some cases, the ATM displays an image of a QR code that you scan with your mobile device’s camera.

Biometrics

Biometric security solutions use your body to verify your identity, adding additional protection for your bank accounts. The most popular biometric security measures on phones are facial and fingerprint recognition. When you enable cardless ATM transactions (by adding a debit card to a mobile wallet, for example), it’s smart to secure your wallet with face or fingerprint verification or a strong passcode. For example, you might set your phone to require a fingerprint before allowing access to your digital wallet.

Some ATMs rely exclusively on biometrics, eliminating the need to use a mobile device, although they are most common outside of the U.S.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Cardless ATMs

Advantages
    • Allows you to travel light
Disadvantages
    • Still has security issues

Advantages Explained

  • Secure: There’s no risk of card skimming because you never swipe your card, and you can’t lose your card while you’re out in public. Plus, if your bank or credit union doesn’t require you to enter your PIN, there’s no risk of people seeing your PIN or hidden cameras capturing sensitive information.
  • Travel light: Whether you forget your cards at home or you prefer not to carry them everywhere you go, your phone is all you need.
  • Fast: Cardless ATM withdrawals can save you time, and you can even begin the process before you arrive at the ATM.

Disadvantages Explained

  • Not universal: Not every ATM may offer cardless access, and your bank may not have cardless ATMs near you.
  • Still has security concerns: Losing your phone can result in additional headaches when your money is at risk. It’s critical to keep your phone up-to-date, enable all available security measures (like biometric security and two-factor authentication), and notify your bank immediately if you lose your phone.
  • Compatibility: Most modern phones should be capable of handling your bank’s app and NFC, when required. But in some cases, like when you have an older phone, you may not be able to do cardless transactions.

Monitor your accounts carefully. If you spot fraud or errors, notify your bank immediately. By acting quickly, you maximize your protection.

Is a Cardless ATM Right for You?

If you like carrying as little as possible when you’re out and about, and you don’t use cash often, cardless ATM access is a good fit for you. Plus, you reduce the risk of loss or theft since cardless ATMs allow you to leave your physical debit cards at home.

Check with your bank to find out how feasible cardless ATM use might be for you. If you decide to use this option, be sure you implement robust security measures on your phone’s lock screen, mobile wallet, and bank apps. But if you’re happy with your current way of doing things and you don’t like the idea of a dead phone battery keeping you from withdrawing cash, there’s nothing wrong with continuing to use plastic.

What is Google Pay, how does it work, and which banks support it?

(Pocket-lint) - In 2018, Google revamped and rebranded its mobile and online payments services, putting them all under the Google Pay or G Pay umbrella. It is, in essence, the company's own alternative to Apple Pay.

You can use it for online payments, in app purchases, contactless payments in stores and even for peer-to-peer money sending. So whether you're browsing for a new pair of sneakers online or buying your morning coffee, G Pay can do all the heavy lifting for you.

Here's everything you need to know about Google Pay.

How do you set up Google Pay?

To get started using Google Pay, follow these steps:

  1. Look for the Google Pay app on your phone. It's preloaded on most Android phones and Wear OS watches, but you can also simply download it from Google Play.
  2. Open the Google Pay app and add a credit or debit card within Cards tab.
  3. If it's your first time using the app, tap Get Started, then select a payment method to add, and take a photo of your card or enter your information.
  4. Google will then verify you via SMS or email authentication.
  5. Simply unlock your phone and tap to use Google Pay at any contactless payment terminal.

If you're using it on a Wear OS smartwatch, the process is similar. Just open the Google Pay app on your smartwatch, it'll then take you through a setup process on the smartphone that it's connected too, verifying you in a similar way with an SMS message, and asking you to set a PIN, Pattern or PIN lock on your watch.

How does Google Pay work in stores?

To do in-store purchases with Google Pay, follow these steps:

  1. Look for the Google Pay symbol or contactless payment symbol at a contactless payment terminal near checkout.
  2. Unlock your phone or launch Google Pay on your Wear OS watch.
  3. Hold your phone or watch over the terminal and wait until you see a checkmark or hear the beep confirming the transaction.

You can pay for goods by simply unlocking your Android phone like you normally do (which also enables Google Pay to authenticate your transaction), then placing it near a merchant's contactless terminal, and that's it. You can also pay for purchases under £45 or $50 without unlocking your phone (the screen just needs to be on), though you can only make a certain number of these transactions before your phone will ask you to unlock it.

For purchases above the £45/$50 limit, you'll need to put in your authentication. You don't even need to open an app to process a payment. It just lets you tap and go, and then you receive the confirmation/transaction details on your phone.

How does Google Pay work in apps?

To do in-app purchases with Google Pay, follow these steps:

  1. Open a supported app, like Uber or Airbnb.
  2. At checkout or time of purchase, look for the Buy with Google Pay button.
  3. Press the Google Pay button.
  4. You'll normally be asked to choose the card you want to use, and confirm its 3-digit security number.
  5. Learn more from here.

Android offers a "Buy with Google Pay" button in apps, meaning you'll be able to tap a button and swiftly checkout, rather than having to enter your credit card and shipping address each time you make a purchase.

How does Google Pay work on websites?

To pay on supported websites with Google Pay, follow these steps:

  1. You can use Goole Pay in any browser.
  2. At checkout on a supported site, just look for the Google Pay purchase button.
  3. You'll normally be asked to choose the card you want to use, and confirm its 3-digit security number.
  4. Learn more from here.

Now, if you see a box at checkout that says "Use selected info for future purchases from this site," check it to use Google Pay and set it as your default payment method. The next time you plan to buy from that site, just choose what you want to buy, start to check out, and confirm that you want to use the payment information associated with Google Pay. Then, all your information will be auto-filled.

What else can you do with Google Pay?

Account passes/train tickets/boarding passes

Just like Apple Pay/Wallet, Google Pay can also be used to store your passes, account cards and travel tickets in one place too. Just open the Google Pay app and tap 'Passes' on the bottom tab to get to them.

Stack up rewards and benefits on all your existing cards with this Curve Mastercard
Stack up rewards and benefits on all your existing cards with this Curve Mastercard By Pocket-lint International Promotion ·

Not all airlines or train operators support the feature, sadly, with many preferring to issue tickets as PDFs rather than G Pay compatible passes, so whether or not you can use this feature very much depends on who you're travelling with.

Pocket-lint

One smart feature is that Google Pay can automatically pull in account details from relevant emails and load virtual member passes/account cards into the Passes screen. So if you have a hotel account and you registered with your Google email account, it should pull that info in.

To add a pass (either public transport, loyalty programme or gift card) just tap the "+ Pass" button and select the relevant option.

Which devices are Google Pay compatible?

Google Pay is available on all modern Android phones (KitKat 4.4+). However, to pay in stores using Google Pay, your phone must support NFC (near-field communication) and HCE (host card emulation). When you place your phone over a contactless payment terminal in a store, NFC and HCE work together to send your payment information to the store so you can make your purchase.

With Wear OS watches, it's a similar situation. Most modern Wear OS watches will have Google Pay support, providing they have NFC built-in for the contactless transactions.

To find out if your Android phone supports Google Pay in stores, open your device's Settings app and then tap 'More' under 'Wireless & networks'. If you don't see this option, look for a similar one like 'Connections' or 'NFC' for example. You may need to tap 'More' to see other settings. If you see the option NFC or something similar, you can officially make payments in stores using Google Pay. Yay!

Which banks work with Google Pay?

US

Google Pay works with your credit and debit cards from the following US financial institutions: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. These cards are issued by the following US banks and credit unions: Bank of America, Capitol One, Chase, Citi, Discover, PNC, US Bank, Wells Fargo, and more. See a full list of supported financial institutions from here.

UK

Google Pay works with your credit and debit cards from the following UK financial institutions: Visa, MasterCard and AMEX cards are supported. These financial institutions support Google Pay in the UK: Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA, Nationwide Building Society, Natwest, and more. See a full list of supported financial institutions from here.

Is Google Pay secure?

Theoretically, yes. When you're paying in store, Google said Google Pay doesn't share your actual card details. Instead, the merchant receives a unique encrypted number. Google worked with leading payment networks and financial institutions to deliver industry-standard security tokenisation. With tokenisation, the retailer receives a 16-digit number instead of your account number.

As a result, Google Pay's tokenisation is different from Apple Pay's in that tokens aren't generated in a secure chip within the phone but rather within the cloud. Still, if you should ever lose your phone, Google recommends using Find My Device to find or erase it in order to keep your local data safe from prying eyes. However, Google Pay does accept a PIN code, password, or pattern to authenticate transactions.

Google

What happened to Google Wallet/Android Pay?

Google Pay is a mobile payments app that can store your credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, etc. In essence, replacing the old Android Pay and Google Wallet apps and services. Google Wallet's peer-to-peer app is dead, and replaced by Google Pay Send, keeping it in line with the Google Pay brand. Google Pay Send allows you to send and request money to/from family and friends, but it is currently only available in the US.

Confusing, we know. Anyway, Google Pay is officially your one-stop shop for purchases, passes, and payment methods. Google is currently working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products, so whether you’re shopping on Chrome or with Google Assistant, you’ll have a consistent checkout experience, using the cards saved to your Google Account, the company explained in a blog post.

It's also constantly working with partners online and in stores, so you’ll see Google Pay on sites, in apps, and at your stores around the globe.

Digital Wallet

A digital wallet (or e-wallet) is a software-based system that securely stores users' payment information and passwords for numerous payment methods and websites. By using a digital wallet, users can complete purchases easily and quickly with near-field communications technology. They can also create stronger passwords without worrying about whether they will be able to remember them later.

Digital wallets can be used in conjunction with mobile payment systems, which allow customers to pay for purchases with their smartphones. A digital wallet can also be used to store loyalty card information and digital coupons.

Key Takeaways

  • Digital wallets are financial accounts that allow users to store funds, make transactions, and track payment histories by computer.
  • These pieces of software may be included in a bank's mobile app, or as a payments platform like PayPal or Alipay.
  • Digital wallets are also the main interface for using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.

Digital Wallet Explained

Digital wallets largely eliminate the need to carry a physical wallet by storing all of a consumer's payment information securely and compactly. Also, digital wallets are a potential boon to companies that collect consumer data. The more companies know about their customers' purchasing habits, the more effectively they can market to them. The downside for consumers can be a loss of privacy.

Digital wallets allow many in developing nations to participate more fully in the global financial system. Digital wallets allow participants to accept payments for services rendered, as well as receive funds or remittances from friends and family in other nations. Digital wallets do not require a bank account with a physical firm or branch, often allowing those in unbanked and underbanked communities, such as Black and Latinx neighborhoods and low-income or rural areas, to be served as well and therefore enables a wider financial inclusion.

Cryptocurrencies rely solely on digital wallets to maintain balances and make transactions, for instance with Bitcoin or other digital currencies.

Example of Using a Digital Wallet

While a handful of top digital wallet companies in 2020 included Due, ApplePay, Google Wallet, Samsung Pay, PatPal, Venmo, AliPay, Walmart Pay, Dwolla, Vodafone-M-Pesa, – among others – the top 3 leading E-Wallets are those of Google, Amazon and Apple. As one example, Google's Wallet service allows its users to “store” cash on their phones. Customers can spend this cash both in-store, as well as online at businesses that accept Google payments.

As noted above, this is supported by near field communication technology (the ability to enable two smart devices to communicate if they are in close range). If a business doesn’t currently accept Google's payment system, Google also recently developed a physical Wallet Card – essentially, a debit card connected with the Bank of Google.

Recently, Google combined its two essential payment streams (Android Pay and Google Wallet) into a single service called Google Pay. Apple on the other hand entered into a strategic partnership with Goldman Sachs to issue Apple credit cards and expand its ApplePay services.

You can also pay for purchases under £45 or $50 without unlocking your phone (the screen just needs to be on), though you can bank of america mobile device wallet app make a certain number of these transactions before your phone will ask you to unlock it.

Android offers a "Buy with Google Pay" button in apps, meaning you'll be able to tap a button and swiftly checkout, rather than having bank of america mobile device wallet app enter your credit card and shipping address each time you make a purchase.

The next time you plan to buy from that site, just choose what you want to buy, start to check out, and confirm that you want bank of america mobile device wallet app use the payment information associated with Google Pay.

Anyway, Google Pay is officially your one-stop shop for purchases, www3 putlockers am, and payment methods. Google is currently working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products, so whether you’re shopping on Chrome or with Google Assistant, you’ll have a consistent checkout experience, using the cards saved to your Google Account, the bank of america mobile device wallet app explained in a blog post.

It's also constantly working with partners online and in stores, so you’ll see Google Pay on sites, in apps, and at your stores around the globe.

Imagine you're finishing up a jog when you run into a pop-up farmers market in your neighborhood that has the freshest produce you've ever seen. It's also cash-only, and since you were working out, all you have on you are your keys and your phone. Even worse, the market closes in 10 minutes, so going home to grab your debit card isn't an option.

But if you had a debit card saved on your smartphone's mobile wallet, you wouldn't need your physical debit card to take out money at Chase cardless ATMs. They were made for times like this, so you can make cash-only purchases while you're on the go.

How cardless ATMs work

Many people may not even be aware that they can get cash from Chase ATMs nationwide without an actual card. It's all thanks to NFC, the same wireless technology that lets you pay at certain registers by tapping your phone against a pay terminal. This saves you the trouble of having to rummage in your bag or pocket to find your wallet.

At Chase cardless ATMs, all you need to do is open your mobile wallet and tap your phone over the ATM's NFC symbol, rather than inserting your card. Then you'll be prompted to enter your PIN into the keypad to take out cash, exactly as if you had used your physical card.

NFC technology uses encryption when reading and sending sensitive information, like your card numbers, to keep your transaction secure. Other added security features, such as fingerprint access and passcodes, are already built in to your smartphone and mobile wallet, so you can take out cash with confidence.

Preparing your smartphone to use a cardless ATM

Chase has bank of america mobile device wallet app with top mobile wallet apps from Apple, Google, and Samsung to make it convenient to use your phone to take cash out at the ATM. Before you can use your Chase debit or Liquid® card to take out cash, you'll need to "provision" your cards, which means you store them on your smartphone's mobile wallet app to make them available for use.

You can do this in one of two ways. To add your card directly to your smartphone's mobile wallet, you simply open the wallet application and either scan your card or manually input your card numbers to store your information. You can also provision your card through the Chase Mobile® app, which will automatically add it to your phone's mobile wallet. Once your card has been added to your mobile wallet, you'll be able to use it the next time you're at an ATM.

With Chase cardless ATMs, you won't have to worry about passing up those fresh blueberries the next time you're out on a run — even if you've left your wallet at home.
