Ally Bank Review

Ally Bank is a full-service online bank offering competitive rates, low fees, no minimums and 24/7 customer service. Headquartered in Sandy, Utah, and founded in 2009, Ally Bank is the digital-only banking division of Ally Financial Inc., which has roots dating back to the 1920s.

Like other online banks, Ally is suitable for consumers who are comfortable banking from their smartphone or desktop computer. Along with checking, savings, money market and certificate of deposit (CD) accounts, Ally provides mortgages, auto loans, personal loans and investing and retirement services.

This review focuses on Ally Bank’s banking products and services. Here’s a detailed look at what this bank offers and how it compares to similar online banks. Account details and annual percentage yields (APYs) are accurate as of June 29, 2021.

Account Basics

Checking

One of the advantages of not having any physical branches is that the bank can pass along those savings to customers in the form of lower fees. That’s the case with the Ally Interest Checking Account, the only checking product offered by this bank. There are no monthly fees associated with the account, nor is there a minimum deposit to open an account. Ally also doesn’t charge overdraft fees.

Customers also get free standard checks, a free debit card and a free bill pay service. Customers who use an Allpoint ATM never face any charges. Go outside of that ATM network of 55,000 ATMs and Ally will reimburse you up to $10 per statement cycle.

Because there are no physical branches, customers have to rely on technology when depositing checks, and that’s where the Ally eCheck Deposit feature comes in. You also can set up direct deposit with this account.

Using the camera on your mobile phone, you take a picture of the check and then deposit it. Customers also can mail in deposits with postage-paid envelopes. Ally also supports Zelle, the peer-to-peer payment platform that enables you to send or receive money from friends and family.

Ally Bank pays 0.10% annual percentage yield (APY) on checking accounts with less than a $15,000 minimum daily balance, and 0.25% APY for accounts with minimum daily balances of $15,000 or more. The latter is higher than some of its rivals. The Capital One 360 Checking Account, for example, pays an APY of 0.10% on all balance tiers, while Wells Fargo pays 0.01% APY on its Preferred Checking account for balances of $500 or more.

Savings

Online banks tend to offer higher rates on savings deposits and Ally Bank is no exception. You won’t get rich off the APY thanks to a low interest rate environment, but you’ll still generally get a better rate than you would at a traditional bank. Ally Bank pays an APY of 0.50% on all balances on its online savings account, which is nearly nine times the national average. Interest compounds daily.

While there are no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements associated with this account, you’re limited to six transactions per statement cycle. After that, Ally typically charges $10 for every additional transaction, but, due to Covid-19, the bank temporarily refunds that fee.

Customers can make deposits via smartphone or by mail.

Money Market

In addition to a savings account, Ally Bank also offers a money market account, which pays an APY of 0.50% on all balance tiers. That’s better than several of its competitors, but it’s not the highest rate available.

Customers pay no monthly fees with this account and there are no minimum balance requirements. You can make unlimited deposits and ATM withdrawals for free.

CDs

When it comes to CDs, Ally Bank offers varying terms and types to meet savers’ needs. Its traditional high-yield CDs range from three months to five years. There’s no minimum deposit requirement to open a CD.

Here’s a look at Ally Bank’s CD rates:

Ally Bank also offers its Raise Your Rate CD with two- and four-year terms. You can increase your rate once during the two-year term or twice during the four-year term. The APY on both terms is 0.55%.

Both high-yield CDs and raise-your-rate CDs from Ally have early withdrawal penalties that vary by term. For terms of 24 months or less, it charges 60 days of interest. The charge moves up to 90 days of interest for terms between 25 and 36 months. For terms between 37 and 48 months, the fee is 120 days of interest. And for terms of 49 months or longer, the charge is 150 days of interest.

For savers looking for liquidity, Ally Bank offers its No Penalty CD. With this product, customers can withdraw money without having to face any penalties. You can start drawing down your money on the seventh day following the funding of the CD. This CD is currently available in an 11-month term and pays 0.50% APY.

Ally Bank also offers both high-yield and raise-your-rate IRA CDs, whose APYs are the same as for the regular CDs.

Access on the Go

Ally Bank makes it easy to access your banking products, relying on technology to amp up the convenience factor. In addition to 24/7 customer service and online banking, Ally has a mobile app for Windows, iOS and Android.

What you can do with the app varies on the operating system. Its iOS version is the most robust. It offers the ability to check balances, find ATMs, transfer funds, manage one-time and recurring transfers, deposit checks, pay bills, send money with Zelle and use Ally Assist.

Ally’s app gets 4.7 out of 5 stars on the App Store and 3.7 out of 5 stars on Google Play.

Ally has even created an Ally Skill for Alexa, Amazon’s voice-activated digital assistant. This means customers with an Alexa-enabled device can use voice commands to check balances on their checking, savings, money market and CD accounts. You also can transfer money, hear recent transactions and get the current rates on its products.

Pros

  • Competitive rates on banking products
  • No minimum balance requirement or maintenance fees
  • Access from anywhere with online and mobile banking
  • 24/7 customer service via phone, live chat or email
  • Full-service bank offering savings products, loans and retirement services

Cons

  • No physical branches
  • Can’t deposit cash

How Ally Bank Stacks Up

Ally is worth consideration for savers interested in higher rates, low fees and no minimum deposit requirements—that’s a rare trifecta at banks.

It’s worth noting that Ally is also a full-service bank, providing a one-stop-shop for banking customers also interested in mortgages, loans and investing. Because of its robust mobile app and online banking technology, it’s possible to accomplish all your banking needs without visiting a physical location.

In place of branch access, the bank offers 24/7 customer service via phone, live chat or email. But that means that this bank isn’t ideal for those who prefer to bank in person, especially if you often need to deposit cash.

Ally consistently offers competitive interest rates, landing them among the best online banks, including being recognized among the best online savings accounts, best CD rates, and best money market accounts.

Ally Bank ranked fifth on J.D. Power’s 2020 U.S. Direct Banking Satisfaction Study, right behind Capital One.

Back in the day, in earlier times when technology hadn’t fully grasped its way and was still in the evolving phase, people have come a long way from there. From home deliveries of almost anything available to supercomputers and electric cars, humans indeed have come a long way from where they were. Handling everything has become so easy, and the case with managing payments. Banks which were a thing of the privileged, are now being used by everyone. Today’s article- Who owns Zelle?

In earlier times, banks too had a traditional thing about them that needed a lot of explanation and understanding to complete a simple transaction with the bank. But, with evolving times, banks have evolved too. People can use their money and complete transactions with a simple click on their mobile phones today’s smartphones. Digitalization has effectively made its way through all the diverse fields of human existence, and they haven’t left payments or modes of compensation through that.

With digitalization into play, banks have explored their options and have led to their modernization. These days with only someone’s mobile number or account number or even email id could make bank transfers, and people don’t have to go to banks for this. Online payments, payments through UPIs, or online bank-to-bank transfers have eased out the life of a man. Primarily through the last year, in these unprecedented times of Covid19 when everything was closed and shops that even opened preferred the mode of the online transaction instead of cash, online money transfers grew multi-folds.

HISTORY OF ZELLE

As is rightly said, things grow when there’s competition, and someone is fighting to take your job. With the advent of time, there are so many options of online payment that people start figuring out which one they should use and which one is the best. One such option is ‘ZELLE.’ This is the United States-based digital payment network owned by ‘Early Warning Services.’ EWS or an early warning service is a private financial company that comes under the ownership of ‘Bank of America, Capital One, BB&T, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank, and Wells Fargo.’ The company has its headquarters in San Francisco, California. This can transfer an online, electronic money transfer mode wherein money can be shared between 2 bank accounts, but both should be in the United States. The company was founded in 2017, and it was previously called “clearXchange.” Discovered in 2011, clearXchange offered payment services through a website owned by “Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo.”

For payments to occur, the user or person should have an account at the respective banks that have participated in the payment process. The network also stored the history of transactions so that customers won’t have to request the details again. The lack of fees also acted as an advantage concerning the other online payment methods like PayPal, PopMoney, etc. The system also attached each bank account with a mobile number and the email address of the user. Hence, anyone who wishes to send money to any other account registered on the network has only to know the telephone/ mobile number of the recipient and the email address, and your problem is solved. The only thing that held it back was that sometimes the transaction could take as long as five days to complete.

In this cut-throat world of competition, time is also as precious as money, if not more. People can’t wait long to obtain their money and want something to fulfill their wish instantly. Since technology too had grown over these years, clearXchange found it best to develop something new that could survive in this competitive world. Therefore, clearXchange was sold to “Early Warning Services” in 2016. In less than a year, in 2017, Early Warning Services announced its new venture named Zelle payment service and a mobile application that enabled it to reach a much broader audience. They also took this big step to announce that clearXchange’s person–to–person accounts would be deactivated, which would be a new beginning.

THE ZELLE SERVICES

Finally, in 2017, Early Warning Services started this online payment portal and eventually became very successful and widely known. This company provides services to only those who the sender knows and trusts enough to send them something. The company isn’t liable and disclaims for anything that is being sold or bought on the portal. The members of the company can send money directly through their mobile number or email id. However, those of you who aren’t a member can also receive the money, but before that, as soon as the sender wishes to send the money, the receiver receives a request, and when it is allowed, only then the transaction comes into effect.

For any member to use the mobile application of Zelle or transfer the funds through the website, they need to enroll, and then only they can use the services. For registering, users must have a MasterCard or Visa debit card, which is issued concerning the US bank account. Since the application connects and uses the current bank account, you don’t need to open a new bank account in correspondence. Apart from this, all you need is an active mobile number or email address to initiate and successfully make the payment. Apart from transferring the money, there is also a unique feature to split the cost with your friends. This habit enables you to split the bill if you are out with your friends or decide to share a cab.

There are also some limits to how much could be transferred from one bank to another and the frequency of transactions allowed in a day. These are the limits imposed by banks and are also necessary considering that there might be fake transactions happening too, in an attempt to steal someone’s money, so locking the number of transactions enables you to monitor the transactions effectively. Since Zelle is owned by Early Warning Systems and uses distributed ownership, the limits vary from one bank to another. For example: if you have your accounts with Wells Fargo and are willing to make a payment or initiate a transaction, the limit is $2,000 per day to $20,000 per month. The transactions between users who are enrolled on Zelle occur within minutes, while if the recipient isn’t on Zelle, it usually takes 1 to 3 days.

THE CONTINUOUSLY EVOLVING PLATFORM

If you don’t evolve with time or continue offering something more to the customers, the company’s growth becomes stagnant. The procurements and attainments of Zelle speak for themselves, and it provides the blueprint on how to manage the collaborative business. Keeping up with the competitors and trying to stay ahead in the game is the kind of attitude that drives Zelle and explains its rousing success over time. For instance, Zelle is at pace with Venmo, but its ability to surpass it is causing a threat to Venmo and its staff. This ability came from the fact that it could convert existing bank clients into Zelle clients and add them to its database.

THE ZELLE Vs. VENMO BATTLE

One of the most significant competitors of Zelle is PayPal and its very unique and famous payment service – Venmo. Venmo is based on opinion polling and raising public awareness by having thorough engagement with customers. The difference probably would be in the kind of money Zelle processes which is around $75 billion (vast volumes of money transfers) in its very first year itself. However, the working model of both these services is quite similar, and therefore they are each other’s competition. It is apparent and understandable.

What makes them different from each other are the points mentioned below:-

  • Zelle possesses direct integration and collaboration with the banking institutions, which Venmo lacks.
  • The speed of money transfers on both these payment sites differs in terms of their processing speed. Zelle’s payments are processed more quickly in comparison to Venmo. Venmo tried to increase its processing speed, but then they started charging money, which also plays in favor of Zelle.

NEGATIVE CRITICISM

It hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows because the company, like any other, received criticism when incidents of fraud started circulating the company. First, there were incidents of fraud wherein the money in the bank accounts of customers was compromised through social engineering. Adding to this, Zelle used to set up fraudsters by transferring the capital of victims’ accounts, thereby leaving them with little or no choice.

These things, however, come in the package deal, and Zelle took adequate measures to make sure this stopped happening. With such systems, a lot of time and effort is saved, and therefore people find it necessary to make effective use of such systems.

Primarily through the last year, in these unprecedented times of Covid19 when everything was closed and shops that even opened preferred the mode of the online transaction instead of cash, online money transfers grew multi-folds.

It's free for members in our mobile app. Using Zelle to send money is a piece of cake, and the easiest solution for a messy mistake. It's easy, fast, and secure. Navy Federal, together with Zelle. MUSIC PLAYING

The best part? You don’t need a personal account number.

Just sign in to Navy Federal mobile* or online banking and under the Send Money option, add your contact's email address or U.S. mobile phone number, and you're ready to go.

Ask your recipients to enroll with Zelle before you send them money—this will help them get your payment more quickly.

How to Send Money with Zelle

  1. Step 1

Sign in to your Navy Federal Credit Union account and select Send Money, then Send Money with Zelle. After you accept the terms and conditions, enter your email address or U.S. mobile phone number to receive a one-time verification code. Next, enter the code in the appropriate box on the enrollment screen and you're all set.

  2. Step 2

To find a new recipient, enter their email address or U.S. mobile number. If the recipient hasn't enrolled in Zelle, they'll receive an email or text letting them know how to enroll to access the money you've sent.

  3. Step 3

Choose the recipient and the amount to send. It's important to make sure the recipient's information is correct because sending money to the wrong recipient could result in a loss of funds.2 Tap Send after you've verified everything is correct.

Who can receive funds with Zelle?

You can send money to almost anyone who has a U.S. bank account. Zelle is intended to be used with friends, family and others (like a babysitter) you know and trust. We recommend that you ask your recipient to enroll before you send them money, because they'll likely receive your payment faster.

You shouldn’t use Zelle to send money to people you don’t know or trust (like an online sales or bidding site). Neither Navy Federal Credit Union nor Zelle offer a protection program for any purchase or sale conducted using Zelle.3 However, if you notice other errors or unauthorized charges, please contact us as soon as possible at 1-888-842-6328.

Will the recipient be notified that I’ve sent them money?

Yes. They’ll receive an email or text message if you send money using their email address or U.S. mobile phone number.

How long does it take to receive funds?

Money in minutes. Money sent with Zelle is designed to deliver payments, typically within minutes. All it takes is for your debit card to be activated—which you can do online or via our mobile app. Once your card is activated, select Send Money, then Send Money with Zelle to get started. For future scheduled payments, funds will be available on the delivery day you select.

What if they’re not enrolled? If you send money through Zelle with an email or phone number to someone who isn’t enrolled, they'll receive a notification that prompts them to enroll. After they enroll, it may take 1 to 3 business days to receive the money you sent, depending on processing times. (This is a security feature.) Once that payment completes, your recipient will typically receive future payments faster.

If the payment is pending for more than 3 days, we recommend confirming that the recipient has activated their Zelle profile and that you entered his or her email address or U.S. mobile number correctly.

If the recipient doesn't respond to the payment notification by enrolling after 14 days, the money will be returned to your account automatically.

If you have questions or need help, you can call the Navy Federal Zelle Support Team toll-free at 1-888-842-6328.

What if I accidentally send money to the wrong person?

Sending funds with Zelle is similar to using cash. You don’t have protections if you send money to the wrong person, and you may not be able to get your money back. (For more information, see the Zelle Payment Terms.) Before sending any money, make sure your recipient's contact information is correct and that the recipient is someone you know and trust.

If you sent money to the wrong person, we recommend contacting the recipient and requesting the money be returned. For information on how you may be able to cancel a payment, please see Section 8, “Can I cancel a payment?”

Can I cancel a payment?

You can cancel a Zelle payment if the recipient hasn't enrolled with Zelle. If your recipient has already enrolled with Zelle, the transaction can’t be canceled.

If you suspect fraudulent Zelle transactions, please contact us at 1-888-842-6328.1

Will I be charged any fees for sending money using Zelle?

No. Navy Federal doesn't charge any fees to send money using Zelle. However, other fees related to your account, such as Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fees or overdraft fees, will still apply.

Can I use Zelle internationally?

You can't use Zelle to send money to bank accounts outside the U.S. However, recipients enrolled in Zelle with a U.S. bank account should be able to receive money in that account while abroad.

Is my information secure?

Security is a top priority for Navy Federal Credit Union. When you use Zelle within Navy Federal digital banking,* your information is protected by the same technology we use to keep your other transactions secure.

What if I get an error message when I try to enroll a U.S. mobile number or email address?

Your U.S. mobile number or email address may be associated with a Zelle profile through another financial institution. You may only establish Zelle with one financial institution. Contact the Navy Federal Zelle Support team at 1-888-842-6328 for instructions on how to transfer your U.S. mobile number or email address to your Navy Federal account. Once you’ve transferred your Zelle service to Navy Federal, it will no longer be connected to the other financial institution.

What's the difference between Zelle and Member-to-Member transfers?

Zelle is not intended to replace Member-to-Member transfers when you’re transferring money to another Navy Federal member. Navy Federal has partnered with Zelle to allow members to send money to or receive money from friends or family with an external (non-Navy Federal) account. Both Member-to-Member transfers and Zelle are available to you when you select Send Money in digital banking.*

What if I don’t receive the items I bought?

You shouldn’t use Zelle to purchase things from people you don’t know and trust. There’s no dispute process/purchase protection if you don’t receive goods you were promised, and you’d have to handle the matter directly with the recipient yourself. However, if you notice other errors or unauthorized charges, please contact us as soon as possible at 1-888-842-6328.

PNC Bank Wire Transfer Fees and Instructions

At Cheese, it’s our goal to provide you with helpful, useful information that allows you to better navigate your financial life. So, we’ve developed resources that allow you to learn about monthly banking fees and, more specifically, a comprehensive review of the online banking services you can enjoy with PNC Bank.

When it comes time to transfer cash to someone else, however, whether they live in the United States or are currently abroad, you’ll definitely need to understand how to navigate PNC Bank’s online checking and services in order to send the cash. How much are PNC Bank’s wire transfer fees and how do you send a wire transfer through PNC Bank? We’ve got the answers for you.

What Are the Wire Transfer Fees at PNC Bank?

PNC Wire Transfer Fees

To complete this transfer, you usually need the name of the recipient, their bank name, account number, and pickup details. Depending on the banks that both the sender and the recipient use, it’s possible to initiate a wire transfer via the bank itself. Or, it can be done through a third-party money transfer service such as Western Union. And, there are almost always fees involved, both for incoming and outgoing transfers both internationally and domestically.

International Wire Transfer Fees at PNC Bank

Like every other major bank, initiating or receiving a PNC Bank wire transfer incurs a fee. And, you’ll note that the PNC Bank wire transfer fees are amongst some of the most expensive. The PNC Bank international wire transfer fee is:

  • Incoming foreign wire transfers are $15 per transaction
  • Outgoing foreign wire transfers are $45 per transaction

You can also transfer money with your PNC Bank account by using Zelle, a money transfer app that’s integrated into the PNC Bank online banking system. It’s free for most users (depending on the bank of the recipient) and is a great alternative to a traditional wire transfer. Again, the ability to complete a transfer via Zelle or any other money transfer app depends on the bank of the recipient, how much you’re sending, and where the bank is located.

Wire Transfer Policies and Limits at PNC Bank

Are there wire transfer limits at PNC Bank? Yes, and they’re actually quite high compared to other banks. Currently, there aren’t any limits for either domestic or international wire transfers. However, there is a $100 minimum limit when sending an international wire transfer.

If you’ve decided to use Zelle (as mentioned above, it’s integrated into the PNC app and PNC mobile banking), the transfer limit is currently $1,000 per day or $5,000 per month. There are no limits to how much money you can receive through Zelle.

In terms of policies and other things to know about PNC Bank wire transfers, you’ll likely need to know certain information to complete the transfer, such as the bank’s SWIFT code, bank address, and more. Here is some helpful information:

Unfortunately, PNC Bank doesn’t allow you to complete wire transfers online. This means that to make an international or domestic wire transfer, you’ll have to visit your local PNC Bank branch or perform the transfer over the phone at 1-888-PNC-BANK(outgoing domestic transfers only).

To initiate a wire transfer via PNC Bank, you’ll need to visit your local branch. Follow these steps to ensure the transfer will be sent without problems:

  • Request a Wire Transfer Request from an employee at your local PNC Bank physical location.
  • Fill out the form at the bank and let the employe know whether you’re going to send a domestic or international wire transfer.
  • The employee will process the request for you and give you a receipt for the transaction. Keep this receipt just in case there are issues with the transfer (especially if it’s international).

Back in the day, in earlier times when technology hadn’t fully grasped its way and was still pnc increase zelle limit the evolving phase, people have come a long way from there.

Therefore, clearXchange was sold to “Early Haanel charles the master key system Services” in 2016.

If you don’t evolve with time or continue offering something more to the customers, the company’s growth becomes disney on ice rabobank arena.

In earlier times, banks too had a traditional thing about them that needed a lot of explanation and understanding to complete a simple transaction with the bank. But, with evolving times, banks have evolved too. People can use their money and complete transactions with a simple click on their mobile phones today’s smartphones.
