Pantry near me -

Second Harvest of the Big Bend is a nonprofit charity started in 1982 to address the urgent problem of hunger in the community. Our mission is to feed hungry, food insecure people in North Florida’s Big Bend region, and to educate and engage the community in the fight to end hunger. The food bank provides healthy food and other needed items for our neighbors in need to address food insecurity, and to relieve emergency and crisis situations.

As the region’s primary source for charitable food, Second Harvest acts as a storage and distribution depot for over 149 smaller front-line agency partners (emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes, homes for the mentally disabled, and domestic violence shelters) in 17 Florida counties -11 counties in our Feeding America service area (Calhoun; Franklin; Gadsden; Gulf; Jackson; Jefferson; Leon; Liberty; Madison; Taylor; and Wakulla), plus 6 counties under agreement with other North Florida food banks. Five of our counties (Gadsden, Madison, Leon, Jackson and Jefferson) are among Florida’s 10 most food-insecure.

In 2020 Second Harvest delivered about 15.2 million pounds of nutritious food, enough for about 12.6 million charitable meals given to people in need for no charge.

Little Free Pantry

Download the Little Free Pantry Flyer here.

Initiated by the Mayor and Council in fall 2016, the Little Free Pantry Program provides access to non-perishable items to those in need within our community. Anyone can donate items and anyone can take items.

What to donate:

Non-perishable grocery items, personal hygiene products, paper products, baby items (baby food, diapers, lotion, soap, wipes) and kid-friendly items (crayons, coloring books, pencils, school supplies). Please ensure all donated items are not expired, dented or damaged.

Please note: During the summer, due to the hot temperatures, we ask that you only donate dry goods, personal hygiene products, paper products and kid-friendly items.

How to become a sponsor or donate:

Each Little Free Pantry location is sponsored by a group/individual or organization for one year. At the conclusion of each sponsor’s term, additional help or sponsorship will be needed. However, anyone can donate items to the Little Free Pantries at anytime.

Please remember to check your pantry often for expired items, as anyone can donate. Also report any physical damage to my attention and we will have repairs made as quickly as possible. Keep in mind that demand outsources supply, so the boxes will not always be full. This program would not be successful without your support and generosity. THANK YOU!

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or for more information on this program, please contact City Hall at 770-830-2000 or email [email protected]

LFP Resource Cards: At the suggestion of Councilmember Gerald Byrd, we compiled a list of helpful community resources and their phone numbers and placed them on cards inside of each pantry.

Two forms are required: a state issued ID such as a driver’s license, and a piece of mail (processed by the US Postal Service) with their name and address on it. A lease that lists all occupants is also accepted. To get food for school-aged children under 18, their school record with their name and address on it is accepted, and for children younger than school age, we will accept a birth certificate. In the event that parents are divorced, children can only be listed under one parent in our records.

I don’t know what I would have done without the support and connection I’ve found at the pantry. We hope that things will pick up soon. But for now, having support from the pantry, it just peels away one layer of worry for my family. And I will never forget that. Ever.

Please note: During the summer, due to the hot temperatures, we ask that you only donate dry goods, personal pantry near me products, paper products and kid-friendly items.

How to become a sponsor or donate:

Each Little Free Pantry location is sponsored by a group/individual or organization for one year. At the conclusion of each sponsor’s term, additional help or sponsorship will be needed. However, anyone can donate items to the Little Free Pantry near me at anytime.

LFP Resource Cards: At the suggestion of Councilmember Gerald Byrd, we compiled a list of pantry near me community resources and their phone numbers and placed them on cards inside of each pantry.
